It’s Tuesday which means I have another wonderful cosplay interview for you.  Today I am proud to share my interview with the one and only Suspicious Tumbleweed.  She is a wonderful cosplayer who deserves to be recognized for her wonderful achievements.  So, when you are finished reading this interview, head over to her page and show her some love.  Enough rambling, here is my interview with the talented and beautiful Suspicious Tumbleweed.

SWN: Who are you and where are you from?

ST: I’ve gone by the screen name Suspicious Tumbleweed for a long time especially in the True Capitalist Radio community a few years back but my real first name is Eve. I’m from Montreal in Quebec, Canada.

SWN: How did you discover cosplay?
ST: Cosplay was very new to me 3 years ago. A friend of mine at the time asked me to go to Otakuthon with her and I agreed. We bought our cosplays online but I still didn’t know what to expect. It was really from that moment on when I saw everyone’s hand made creations that I wanted to one day be as good as them.

SWN: I really love your Dagger cosplay. What made you choose her out of the female heroes in the Marvel Universe?

ST: I had bought the Essentials – Punisher Vol. 1 and as I read on there was an issue with Cloak and Dagger. I really loved them and wanted to read comics more centered on them for a while. So my choice to cosplay her was solely based on my love for their story. Of course they’re an old bunch so a lot of it can be pretty cheesy. I’d love to see what kind of stuff could be made these days with the series. When I wore the cosplay with my friend as Cloak to Montreal Comiccon I almost preferred the fact that less people knew who I was because those who did were filled with joy.

SWN: What other genres do you cosplay?

ST: Although I attend Anime conventions I tend to not cosplay anime related things. I’m more comfortable cosplaying characters from comic series, games, even movies and TV sometimes. When it comes to comic cosplays I like to do a more artistic interpretation of the character because of how simple the costumes tend to be in older issues and wouldn’t really look esthetically pleasing on a live human being. When it comes to games the biggest challenge it to stop something from looking very flat. Make it real!

SWN: I also understand you are quite the artist. When did you discover your passion for art?

ST: I’ve always loved to draw and create. I always chose the art option in high school as my complementary class choice. One year I even managed to get two art classes in my schedule. When it came to going to college I decided to take the Fine Arts program. Although I disliked the program in the end I did learn some really useful things in our 3d classes. How to make proper molds etc. In my painting classes I learned how to properly use color. Those are things I apply to my cosplays so some good came out of it in the end. When I entered the program I started wondering more how people were making things that looked factory made and that’s when cosplay became a bit more of an obsession.

SWN: What is your favorite way to show off a new cosplay?

ST: I show off my cosplays at conventions, I like to wear a different cosplay for each day. I also like to do separate photo shoots and post my favorite pictures on deviantart, forums and I recently started posting to tumblr…though I’m not too fond of it. However I don’t show off my cosplays to impress others as much as to see where I stand in my endless journey of getting better. Will people think I did a good job is what I’m after. Cosplay is something very personal to me and it is a personal goal to see myself improve at a craft.

SWN: Do you do other modeling besides cosplay?

ST: I don’t and I’m not sure it would interest me given the opportunity. I love to wear all kinds of things and be a character or show off something unique in hopes that maybe those who are too shy to cross that invisible line of what is “socially acceptable”. Expression is not a crime.

SWN: What are your plans for the future?

ST: As far as cosplay goes. I’m now moving on to my next set of cosplays for 2015. Three of my cosplays still need photoshoots (Shredder, Merkova, and Jack O Lantern). My 2015 list includes Lord Darkar from Winx Club and Jack O Lantern from Venom. I have already finished those and Have moved on to Knight Lautrec of Carim from Dark Souls. The following will be the Arishok from Dragon Age 2 and Sven from Dota 2. Of course The majority of those will be feminized. I also recently took a liking to making barbarian fairies out of Lolita dresses.
Those are the cosplays I plan on making for myself. I also take on cosplays for others, for a price of course. I recently finished making a warrior Elsa cosplay for an old friend of mine and must prepare myself for whatever my sister wishes to cosplay this year.
On top of cosplay I’m currently taking make up classes as a prerequisite to Special FX.

SWN: Where can my readers see more examples of your work?

ST: For those who are interested I share a Facebook page with two of my friends for our cosplays and progress, updates, etc. We even like to provide advice and help in private messages for those who ask for it. It’s still a relatively new page so we’d appreciate everyone’s encouragement in liking our page.

There’s my deviantart account: suspicioustumbleweed.deviantart.com
I have a tumblr but I made it not too long ago: suspitumbleweed.tumblr.com/

SWN: If you had to pick one cosplay, which one is your favorite?

ST:It’s a tough choice between Spawn and Viktor. Spawn is the first cosplay where I really saw an improvement and was proud of how far I’d come. I wore it to the Masquerade at Montreal Comic-con. Although I did not get a prize for it I’m still very proud of it. I wore Viktor to the Otakuthon Masquerade and won a prize for my mask! I was very happy. For now Spawn and Viktor are my favorites but I’m really quite happy with the way my new one is turning out (Knight Lautrec from Dark Souls) and I’m once more seeing large steps of improvement!
I would also like to take the time to say that your hobby should be for fun and for you above all. It is fun competing in the masquerade but that’s exactly what it should be, fun. So to all cosplayers, GL HF, Believe in yourself.
