Greetings Cosplay fans, it is time for another interview with a great cosplayer.  Today I am proud to say I have an interview with one of the greats.  I have seen her work all over the world wide web and I have been dying to interview her.  Well, my dreams came true and now you get to share in the glory.  So sit back, relax, and enjoy the beautiful and creative mind of Damaris aka Mystique’s World of Cosplay.

SWN: Who are you and where are you from?

D: My name is Damaris and I was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico

SWN: How did you discover cosplay?

D: Well, I’m a huge Battlestar Galactic and during MegaCon 2007, Mary Mcdonnell and Jamie Bamber were the bonus guests attending that convention. So, I wore a t-shirt that said “Don’t Blame Me: I Voted for Rolsin” and I got Mary Mcdonnell to autograph it. People would stop me in the halls, in the dealer rooms and even during panels asking if they could take a photo of my shirt because she doesn’t normally autographs clothing items. I guess she really appreciated the fact that I voted for her character. Needless to say, I loved the attention and thought that it would be fun to dress up in costume for the next convention.

bane

SWN: I really love your Rule 63 Bane cosplay; it is by far the best Bane I have ever seen. How did you come up with that idea?

D: My very good friend Abby Darkstar and I were having a conversation about MegaCon 2014 and that it would be fun if I could be Bane and she would be Bat Girl. Then we could both do a sexy photo shoot together. Unfortunately, she didn’t make it out to MegaCon but I was still inspired by the idea. Becoming Bane motivated me to gain an additional 8 lbs of muscle just to cosplay that character. I wanted to bring the character to life in every way possible. Took me 6 months of intense training and proper dieting and I’m doing it again for DragonCon ;)

SWN: What other comic characters have you cosplayed?

D: I’ve done numerous BSG costumes such as Green BDUs, Duty Blues, C-Bucs Pyramid player and Razor Marine. I’ve also expanded my universe to include Marvel and DC characters as well such as Bat Girl (Alex Ross version), Isis, Black and White Spider-Woman, She Hulk, Female Wolverine, Cheetah from the animated series and I’m currently working on a “secret” cosplay that I will reveal at DcagonCon 2014.

I’ve also done Jakitta Wagner from the Planetary, Mortal Kombat’s Frost, Jetta from The Misfits, Mad Max Road Warrior, Zombies, Ninja Assassin, Spartacus Gladiator, Wear wolf, Vampire and a Death Dealer from Underworld.

From the Star Trek universe; Seven of Nine, Janeway from End Game, Enterprise Terran Empire from the Mirror Universe and I’m currently working on putting together my UNTIMATE dream cosplay as The BORG QUEEN, thanks to the help of Gotham City FX.

MarisBrood

SWN: Another one of my favorites is your version of Maris Brood. How did that idea grab you? Have you done other Star Wars related cosplays?

D: Star Wars Celebration was coming to Orlando FL for the 1st time and my good friend Eric Pfeifer and I were making plans for the convention. He told me that Maris Brood would be an awesome costume for me to do. I researched the character and fell in love with the idea.

Yes, I’ve done a few more Star Wars character. I did Commander Cody (yes, I was too short to be a trooper), My own version of a female Darth Maul Sith Lord, a Sith Witch and a Jedi.

SWN: What genres do you cosplay?

D: I don’t have a particular genre that I favor nor lean more towards really. I draw inspiration from strong characters.

SWN: Do you have a favorite way to showcase a new look?

D: No, I cant say that I have. I do love to give people the WOW factor as best as I can. Make sure to stay fit and true to the character.

fitness2

SWN: Do you do other modeling besides cosplay?

D: Yes, I do some fitness molding.

SWN: What are your plans for the future?

D:To improve my craftsmanship and continue to be an amazing mother to my twin boys.

wearwolf

SWN: Where can my readers see more examples of your work?

D: The best way to keep track of any future cosplay would be via my Facebook fan page
Mystique’s World of Cosplay.

SWN: If you had to pick one cosplay, which one is your favorite?

D: Oh man, that’s a tough question. At this point I would have to say my Lady Bane. I had so much fun portraying that character.
