Captain America is an icon among icons, so when I wanted to write a review that would post on the 4th of July, I thought it had to be Cap.  Although this issue has been out a couple of weeks, it is the latest issue of Cap to review.  Today’s review is Captain America #13.  The story is titled Shock to the System and this issue is part 3 of the storyline.

Shock to the System is a story about people from Cap’s past getting hurt or worse…killed.  We find out that there is a new vigilante in town and he is using the identity of Scourge to take down villains that were in the witness protection program.  During one of the attacks, Diamondback was placed in a coma trying to stop the Scourge.  When Cap hears the news he jumps into action trying to stop this murderous mad man from taking the law in his own hands.

Issue #13 starts with Captain America saving a potential lead from being killed by Hydra.  Cap wants to know everything he can about Henry Gyrich, the man Cap feels is responsible for leaking the information on the “protected” witnesses.  The next couple of pages we find Gyrich having problems of his own with is new Scourge.  Gyrich of course is a great talker and is able to control the temper of Dennis Dunphy aka D-man aka the Scourge.

Cap uses the information he gets to lay a trap for Gyrich using his S.H.I.E.L.D. resources while he saves the next victim in the list.  Who is this next victim you ask, Roger Manning aka the Porcupine.  As Cap rescues the Porcupine, he fails to notice that he is in the sights of a sniper, a sniper named Scourge.

This issue is full of great story telling as well as great artwork.  If you have not been getting the latest run of Captain America, you should do yourself a favor and pick up the book.   I have read it several times myself because it is that damn good.  Be here when I review issue #14 to see what happens to Captain America.
