Today may be the last day of January for the year 2015, but it is the first day of exciting interviews from yours truly.  I have been away for a few weeks but I’m back baby!  I can think of no better way to celebrate my return than with a Cosplay Spotlight.  I can think of no one better to spotlight than Mappy Sanchez, so kick back, relax, and enjoy my interview with the lovely and talented Mappy Sanchez.

SWN: Who are you and where are you from?

MS: I’m Mappy Sanchez and i’m from Barquisimeto, Venezuela.

SWN: How did you discover cosplay?

MS: I’ve always loved anime ever since I can remember, when I started to have access to the internet at a very young age I would search anime related topics online, that’s how I came across cosplay and learned what it was, even though I didn’t think I could do it because there weren’t any cons at my country. When I first saw that a convention was being held at my city I didn’t even thought about it, cosplaying was a natural choice for me.

SWN: I really love your version of the X-men’s Pixie. How did that Idea come to mind?

MS: Thank you!! The X-men are my favorite characters from Marvel, I love them, specially the classic 90’s TV series. Despite my love for those characters, I didn’t think I could portray any of them properly because they have such voluptuous bodies and mature faces. My cousin is the biggest comic fan I’ve met, and a couple years ago he sent me pics of this new mutant called Pixie, he thought she looked just like me! And I agreed! My hair is also pink and her face is a little bit childish. Her design was very beautiful. I read some comics in which she appeared and also loved her personality, I decided to cosplay her eventually. This year I was a cosplay guest at Caracas Comic Con, and it being a comic convention I decided it was the perfect chance to finally do that cosplay.

SWN: What genres do you cosplay? Which genre is your favorite?

MP: I’ve always been an anime fan, so i love cosplaying my favorite anime characters. I love anime from late 90’s and early 2000.

SWN: What is your favorite way to show off a new cosplay?

MS: At a big con! I love getting feedback from other fans at conventions.

SWN: If you had to pick one, which cosplay is your favorite?

MS: Asuka Langley´s plugsuit from Neon Genesis Evangelion. It was my dream cosplay.

SWN: What was your first cosplay?

MS: I was Sailor Jupiter from Sailor Moon when i was 12 years old! I had to cosplay a character from sailor moon, it has always been one of my favorite anime. At that time wigs were hard to get, i had brown hair, so that’s why i chose her. I had a great time.

SWN: Do you have any new cosplays that you are working on at this moment?

MS: At this very moment I’m resting because I worked really hard on my cosplays for Caracas Comic Con and there’s no upcoming cons. But I always have materials and plans going on. I may start working on a new evangelion plugsuit very soon.

SWN: Where can our readers see more of your work?

MS: You can see my cosplay at my DeviantART account sailormappy.deviantart.comand I also have a Facebook fan page www.facebook.com/sailormappy.

SWN: What advice do you have for “newbies” of the Cosplay scene?

MS: I think the cosplay scene is basically the same in every country. Don’t let negative comments get you down, when you cosplay you basically get exposed a lot, whether you like it or not. You have to have confidence in yourself and it will pay off, just take the constructive criticism that will make you grown and learn. It’s a very beautiful hobby, my advice is that you don’t take it TOO seriously, remember we’re all having fun and we just want to spend time with people who share the things we enjoy! The best thing about cosplay is meeting new friends and having a blast!
