It has been  a few weeks since I last provided a Cosplay Spotlight and personally, I think we are overdue.  Today’s spotlight is on a talented individual in the world of cosplay and burlesque.  When you see her work, you will realize the talent that she has and you will want to see more.  Feel free to click on the links and check out the rest of her work when you finish reading this post.  With that said, I present to you, my interview with the talented and beautiful, Miss Kiss.

SWN: Who are you and where are you from?

MK: The name is Miss Kiss and I am from Beautiful Burnaby BC!

SWN: How did you discover cosplay?

MK: I have always loved any excuse to create outfits and dress up. And I have always loved dressing up as characters from my favorite movies or cartoons. I went as Morticia one Halloween when I was around 6 – everyone thought I was a witch! I was so mad! I was NOT wearing a pointy hat! I also made myself and my bestie Columbia and Magenta costumes when we were about 15 so that we could go see the movie and look AWESOME on Halloween. I can’t say for sure how I discovered “cosplay” – I was like, oh there is a name for walking around and attending events dressed up as someone/something you love?! SWEET! I have already been doing that! I saw some amazing folks doing it on the interwebs and then I started going to local cons!

SWN: I really love your Harley Quinn pin-up cosplay. How did that idea surface?

MK: Thank you so much!! My bro and I always watched the classic Saturday Morning Cartoons. One of our favs was B:TAS – where Harley got her start! I have always been a goofball and a hopeless romantic, so I related to her! AND we both have the same favorite colors!

I revisited my love for Harley when I found that my man also loves the Joker and finds Harley pretty nice to look at – who doesn’t? So seeing as I found a man who appreciates my crazy and puts up with my wearing wacky things all the time, I thought I would do something special for him. It started out as just a photoshoot with Pin Up Perfection Photography, and while shooting, Shimona said, “You have to do a number to this!”

SWN: I also understand you are a burlesque performer. Do you ever bring your world of cosplay into an act? How did you get into the world of burlesque?

MK: My Harley shoot turned into a full blown number with Harley getting ready to go spread havoc on the town – complete with hammer fun and candy prizes! I have also recently hosted an event with Geekenders where I was Ariel. I look forward to doing more numbers that fall into the nerdlesque category. The scene is so fun and open for anything!! I love the energy!

I have always loved Old Hollywood – got it from my Grandma who pin-curled her hair every night and never went out without her rouge and lipstick! I soon found out about Bettie Page and went looking for other ladies like her and stumbled upon the world of Burlesque and I died! I wanted to be one of these women! But how?!

I am a trained Musical Theater Performer and years ago I was doing a production of Jesus Christ Superstar with a gentleman better known as The Purrrfessor. Burlesque came up and he told me he runs a weekly Burlesque night called “Kitty Nights” with his sensational wife Burgundy Brixx and asked if I would like to be a Stage Kitty for them one night. The answer to that is obvious and off I was down the glitter trail!

I am currently with a collective called Pandora and the Locksmiths. We are a burlesque group with a live jazz band that we get to bust a move to! (And I get to show off my first love – singing!)

SWN: What other characters have you cosplayed?

MK: I have a few different versions of Harley and my other main cosplay is LeeLoo from The Fifth Element! I have ideas a brewing for future endevours……

SWN: Do you do other modeling besides cosplay?

MK: I do some pin up and alternative and I am always up for new adventures!

SWN: What are your plans for the future?

MK: I hope to get out to more cons!! With the day job and musical theater and local performing, it is not always easy for me to get out!

SWN: If you had to pick one cosplay, which one is your favorite?

MK: My favorite it my Kotobukiya Bishoujo inspired Harley Quinn made for my by the insanely talented Misty Greer. I wanted a full suited classic Harley with just a bit of a twist – and of course she added Swarovski crystals! I also like that I can wear it will the cowl or wig. SO many options for fun!!
