Is Fallout New Vegas just a reskined Fallout 3 … yes , is that a bad thing … no.  Much if not all of what made Fallout 3 great remains intact. The game looks just like Fallout 3. No updated anything from 3 ,if you played 3 you know what you are going to see. There was times when I was playing New Vegas when I looked around and couldn’t tell if I was playing Fallout 3 or not. It would have been nice to see some updated graphics. Don’t get me wrong, New Vegas looks great. Vegas Strip is interesting and colorful with a lot going on , very different  from the darkness of the rest of the game. You see the same buildings , the same rocks and, the same trees over and over again.

The ease of management of your quests and inventory is the same, your pip boy returns to guide you on your way.  Coming from somebody that as about 150+ hours in Fallout 3 it’s nice to see the core elements of the game back. The V.A.T.S. combat system is back and works about the same.(V.A.T.S. is a system that locks on to your target and figures out the percentage of the chances of hitting somebody.)  The only thing is V.A.T.S. is less needed than it was in Fallout 3 just because New Vegas plays more like a first person shooter with more control over your gun and better aiming.  Modding for one is something different,  it’s a system where weapons can be created or added to and it adds a little bit to the game play. You can take really crappy guns and making them your own like adding a scope or more clips to really fine tune them to your likeing.

The freedom that the game gives you really is what makes the fallout games so bad-ass . You see a guy walking around want to blow his head off, well go do it. You want to help the little old lady find her lost son well do it. Your free to follow the story or just do whatever you want to do. Looking for side quests, or just allowing you to march straight through the campaign is something to be expected from a Fallout game.  There’s no shortage of things to do and you’ll never see everything on the first play through.

The story is pretty straight forward: you’re a courier that is doing job, only to find yourself caught up in a big game of getting fucked over and you must track your attackers down. The rest is pretty basic as it is your job to do everything from fixing robots for people or to fighting off escaped convicts. Like before, you can go good, bad, neutral, or a mixture in between; your choice. New Vegas’ story never hit home with me the way that Fallout 3’s did.  Maybe it was the fact that Fallout 3 was my first Fallout that I have ever played so I didn’t really know what I was doing and was pleasantly surprised.  New Vegas not so much. The story is longer and with more paths to follow and yet you care less about the characters.

After Fallout 3 I had gotten use to the glitches from the game. In New Vegas, I had to restart quite a few times due to the game locking up in certain spots. I have gotten glitched inbetween rocks where I couldn’t get out of.  It doesn’t happen often but it will most likely happen to others . Sure all the stuff well be patched (they said this week it will be soon.) Your character still has that real floaty-ghost-feeling-thing, and camera angles can be changed from first person to third.  Though your character looks so werid that you may not ever use the third person perspective and playing from the third person also makes it almost impossible to aim or pick up anything.

While I have not beaten the game yet, I found myself wishing I had done several things different just to see what would happen. So I’m sure I’ll be playing through this game a 100 times like I did in Fallout 3. Don’t think it will get repetitive as Dragon Age: Origins, a great game but lacked replay value as the missions stayed almost same with each play through. I havent played Hardcore mode as of yet and will write a reveiew, if it is that different and if you havent heard hardcore mode in the game makes it were you have to sleep, eat , and drink water like a normal person or you die. Sounds real fun and should add a whole new level of play to the game.

Bottom line is I love this game. It takes nearly everything about Fallout 3, while only making small adjustments to the gameplay and story, and makes New Vegas feel like Fallout 3 .  It’s kinda of comfortable and easy to pick up if you have played 3. In the first 48 hours of the game’s release I had 30 hours of the game played . So you owe it to yourself to go out and get this game. For more info on Fallout here is a LINK to the offical page.

On the R.A.D. Meter I give it a 9 out 10!
