It’s hard to imagine the Horror genre without the now infamous Jason Voorhees, but there was once a time. The character is a money machine (money is what brings the evil back to life in Hollywood) and after 12 films shows no signs of stopping.

Why is it we’re drawn to the films? Why is it we are drawn to Jason? Bradley Fuller believes the reason that the Friday The 13th movies have become so iconic and have terrified audiences is that many of the people who have seen the films have themselves been to holiday camps such as the fictitious Camp Crystal Lake, or have at least already gone camping.

I honestly wish I could’ve been there at the beginning of this phenomenon, to see the original in a theater and the crowds reactions. The stalking figure of the forest haunted me for years when I’d walk through a wooded area, it’s one of them things that lurks in the back of your head.

Jason became a part of the 80’s pop culture, along with Freddy Kreuger & MIchael Myers. Appearing on chat shows (But not speaking), getting his own figure and many  other merchandising items. Alice Cooper even wrote a song about him, for one of his movies.

13 different people have played Jason (that includes child & adult), which includes a fan favorite, Kane Hodder. I find it funny that he is worshiped by fans even though the films in which he portrayed Jason where some of the weakest. Why is this you may ask? Well it’s because Hodder had Jason down to a tee, his characteristics brought Jason alive without muttering a single word, he took the character seriously and tried his best to scare audiences. No matter how bad the film was, you couldn’t deny the work of Hodder.

It may not be one of the best series in Horror but it is one that’s loved by millions and held close to the hearts of Horror fans. Every time the date Friday the 13th rolls round you can bet 90% of Horror fans are having a “Friday the 13th” marathon or at least watch one film from the series.

Jason has scared audiences world-wide for over 30 years and he shows no signs of stopping either. LONG LIVE JASON!
