Greetings from another Galaxy,

Today I will be reviewing issues #1 and 2 of the Guardians of the Galaxy Prelude which gets us ready for the Guardians film coming to us on August 1, 2014.  As you may already know the Guardians movie has been all the buzz as of late.  Even people who do not read the series on a regular basis are chomping at the bits for the film to be released.  That is where the prelude comes in.  It’s sole purpose is to tie things in you need to know about some of the major players before the film debuts.

Issue #1 focuses on the past that Gamora and Nebula have with each other.  For one, they both have a bond with Thanos and for two, they are both trained assassins.  Guardians of the Galaxy Prelude #1 tells a tale of two girls being trained to achieve ultimate power.  The story doesn’t end there, you see the past is told in flashbacks while Nebula is on a new mission.  In her eagerness to beat Gamora, she ends up in a trap which will change her life completely.  Gamora leaves her to fight her way out as she was instructed and Nebula does what some would think unthinkable so she would not be a disappointment to the might Thanos.

Guardians of the Galaxy Prelude #2 gives us a tale of two mercs trying to make money to find their way home.  Who are these mercenaries?  Well, Rocket Raccoon and Groot of course.  We find our galactic duo in the middle of a gunfight on the Hub.  At first we do not know how our heroes are involved, but then we flashback to the deal the incidents that led to Groot’s and Rocket’s involvement with a galactic mob and the firefight that we saw first thing as we opened issue #2.

All in all, the two issues are a must for Guardians fans as well as those who would like to see the film.  They are full of action and information that I feel you will need to know.  I realize that issue #1 came out last month, with #2 being released a couple of weeks ago.  That being said, I think that if you cannot get your hands on a physical copy you should at least get a digital copy.  Trust me, you will be glad that you did.

I give issue #1 a rating of 9 out of 10 and issue #2 a rating of 8 out of 10.  Issue #1 drew me in just a little bit more than issue #2, but they are equally important.  Until next time, get your READ on!
