It’s our Halloween 2017 Nerd Talk where we, the SomewhatNerdy Crew are discussing what our favorite Halloween movie is that isn’t the movie Halloween. Don’t misunderstand us. We love us some Michael Myers. Halloween is one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) slasher franchises of all time. But it’s such an obvious answer that we wanted to bring up other movies that we love. Be sure to check out the SomewhatNerdy Radio Podcast for their 13 Nights of Halloween podcast. It’s not too late to catch up. They give you one movie to watch each night of Halloween. But what do we thing? Well here are the picks from Derf, Billiam, and our resident horror man Raz.

Derf

This week’s Nerd Talk wants to know what our favorite Halloween film is, the only rule is we cannot choose Halloween.  Well, my favorite film that takes place during Halloween is and will always will be The CrowThe Crow was released back in 1994 and was the last film that Brandon Lee made.  Unfortunately, during filming, Brandon was killed on set when one of the blanks had too much powder causing a fatal shot that ended up killing him.

When I first saw The Crow, I was entranced.  The film was well written and the soundtrack is out of this world!  The story itself, was one of despair yet gave you hope that even in the darkest times, good will prevail.  For those of you who don’t know, Brandon plays Eric Draven.  Eric is a musician that was killed along side his fiance’ on Devil’s Night.  A year after his death, he comes back to avenge the death of his fiance’ as well as his own.

I am a huge fan of The Crow, the original film and not the sequels, and I will always watch this film as a tradition during Halloween Week.  I cannot say enough good things about this film and I am glad I got to share my love of the film with you, our readers.  Just remember NERDS, it can’t rain all the time.

This one was actually quite hard for me. I do a movie marathon every year and sometimes I do it alone, sometimes a friend hosts it, but there is always movies. The thing is, the movies always change. What I feel like watching, always changes. So the way I had to look at it was, which movie, besides Halloween of course, have I picked the most or enjoyed the most?

My favorite scary movie is The Conjuring. It’s the first movie since I was a child that scared me, but when it comes to a holiday movie marathon, I want to focus on the holiday theme. That movie is… (I’m trying to build anticipation like you just can’t scroll down and see the picture.)

This movie came out in 2007 and before then I had my other favorite movies to watch during the holiday, but when I saw this it captured Halloween so well, that it became a must watch and I think there’s only been one or two years that I’ve not watched it.

If you’ve never seen this, you should make a point of doing so. Of course, you’re following the SomewhatNerdy Radio’s 13 Nights of Halloween list, right? Right. And if you did, then you’ve already watched this movie. Trick ‘r Treat is a collection of short stories that all take place on the same night and involve different characters with only one exception, Sam, the “kid” with a burlap sack over her/his head.  These five short stories good and when woven together they form a really good movie. Cheesy at times, silly at times, scary at times, good all around. If you need a great Halloween themed movie to watch, check this out.

As the Horror guy of the SomewhatNerdy group you can imagine that I love it when we do a Halloween or Horror segments for ‘Nerd Talk with the SomewhatNerdy Crew’, so when this time of year rolls round I get really excited about what we will be doing this time. This question – Favourite Halloween Themed Film (besides Halloween) – was a lot harder than you think.

In my opinion there aren’t enough films based around the Halloween season, those I did widdle down (as I wasn’t allowed to use Halloween) was between “Hocus Pocus” and this, “Night Of The Demons” I chose this one because as much as I love “Hocus Pocus” (don’t we all) this was the only other actual Halloween themed Horror film that I had to watch growing up besides “Halloween“.

In my opinion this film doesn’t get anywhere near the credit it deserves, it’s such a fun feature and it really gets you into the spirit of everything Halloween. Go and give it a watch and remember how fun Halloween can be!
