Set in Berlin during WWII, the Nazi regime is attempting to develop a drug that will animate the dead, in order to use in the war effort. Toulon arouses suspicion as a Nazi dissident, and his secret is discovered. During a Nazi raid on his home, Toulon’s beautiful wife is murdered. Toulon vows revenge, with the help of his animated puppets. This movie gives a new perspective on Toulon and his “friends”.
Yes that’s right, Toulon is back fighting the Nazi’s I know it doesn’t make sense that he’s younger than in the first one even though it’s set in the same time-space but that doesn’t matter, it’s the quality of the film that matters.
For B-movie entertainment this is a hard film to beat, “Toulon’s Revenge” recounts how Andre Toulon brought his puppets to life, how the Nazis tried to steal his experiments to raise their dead, and how Toulon struck back with the help of his puppets. It’s a better version of the story, that is hard to do in the film industry but this film just pulls it off perfectly, if you’re a fan of the series you’ll know this is one of the favourites amongst fans.
We see Guy Rolfe convincingly portray Toulon, in-fact the whole film has great acting, so good you wouldn’t even think it was a Full Moon B-movie production. Also notable is Ian Abercrombie, who played Mr. Pitt in “Seinfeld,” as Dr. Hess. but what can I say, these films aren’t about the actors, it’s about the true stars of the film…….The puppets!
The puppets as usual are amazing! We find out the back-story of the Leech Woman puppet who was in-fact Toulon’s wife Elsa. Of course we also get our favourites such as Blade, Pin Head, Tunneler, Six-shooter and more with a couple of new additions as well. We get alot of action from the puppets in this film, we also see their emotions more as we see their love for Toulon, I know that might sound weird but you truly have to watch it to see what I mean.
Also the animation of the puppets is superb as always, you can fault the animation team for their work on them, it’s hard to make a living puppet seem real but you truly get creeped out watching them at work.
This film is easily one of the best in the series and to outdo your 2 previous films is a feat and a half! Yes it has it’s problems like, why the Germans speak English? Or why Toulon is presented as a good guy when the first “Puppetmaster” painted a much different picture? but don’t get into that, just enjoy it for what it is!
