The pupils at a high school next to a nuclear power plant start acting and looking strange after buying contaminated drugs from a plant worker.

You voted for it, you got it! This should be fun!

Now if you’re looking for an insightful review about how this film shows the dangers of nuclear power and how it’s all covered up we a disaster happens, well you’re in the wrong place. You need to stop reading this and go and look elsewhere.

When it comes to Troma films you know what you’re getting yourself into so you already have this predisposition when you watch them. That doesn’t make them any less fun though, I don’t even think that’s possible.

The film features the usual humour you expect and yes the nudity is here if that’s what you’re looking for, but in all honesty this film is just so damn entertaining. I will never understand anyone who doesn’t enjoy this, it’s just impossible not to enjoy it in some sense.

The lick has some awesome effects and one liners, who hasn’t shouted “CHRISSY” out loud?! (Just me then). It also feature some of the coolest characters to ever grace a screen, ‘The Cretins’, this group of misfits are as awesome today as they always have been.

“Class Of Nuke ‘Em High” is cheesy, trashy and everything we love about Troma. A must watch for fans of sleaze.

Miscellaneous facts about the film:

The Monster is never seen in a full shot as the entire costume was never finished. They only had bits and pieces that were used as a puppet (hands, face, legs etc.)

When Dewey lands on the pavement in the opening scene, the first man to walk up to him is a shocked, bearded man, played by Troma co-founder and producer Michael Herz in his only on-screen performance ever.

The original title for the film was simply ‘Nuke ‘Em High’. It was later changed in hopes of people mistaking it for Class of 1984 (1982).

Lauren Heather McMahon’s role as Taru was originally a lot bigger, but due to her having a car accident, her character was replaced by others in the script. Her scene in the film is also the only one solely directed by Richard W. Haines.

Brad Dunker became one of the lead ‘Cretins’ because he was one of the few people in the cast who was able to ride a motorcycle. Before that, he was a member of the crew and had a cameo as a student with sunglasses in the party scene.

When Chrissy goes to the hospital, you can hear over the loudspeaker “Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard”. These are the names Moe, Larry, and Curly take in certain episodes of the Three Stooges.

On the DVD extra, Robert Prichard said that Heather McMahon, who played Taru, was supposed to have a bigger role. However, her car accident prevented this, and Theo Cohen, who played Muffy, stepped in and did all of the scenes written for Taru.

During the PA announcements at the start of the movie, Warren can be seen dressed in a football jersey talking to a girl, and also in his regular class right before Dewey’s freak-out. The scene with Warren in the football jersey is also recycled at the end of the film as well.
