On a prom-night dare, a trio of high school friends chant an incantation, unleashing an evil spirit from the past with deadly consequences.
I honestly don’t know what I was expecting from this third instalment.
I think maybe I was expecting more of the same formula, like what we became used to with “Final Destination” series. With this third and final instalment in the series we see the studio abandon the Slasher elements we’d become used to and instead went down the route of the supernatural which in all truthfulness just did not work at all.
In all honesty I knew I was not going to enjoy this direct-to-video sequel within the first ten minutes of the film, I usually give films more time but sometimes you just know and unfortunately I was right and the film never picked up. This really irritated me because you can tell it’s just plain lazy writing and it shows so badly on screen that as a viewer it’s just insulting.
I understand the studio trying to change things up with the murders being committed by an actual urban legend character but it’s just so sloppily done that what you see on screen is a mess. There’s awkward scenes that are played out like they were wrote by hormone driven teenagers and it’s annoying when that is overtaking the supposed story.
The effects in the film are also disgraceful, from terrible CGI spiders to terrible make up effects such as our Urban Legend Character of ‘Mary’. The acting isn’t great either, half the cast look like they were hired for their looks rather than skill, the suntan scene is evident of this. I will honestly say that once was more than enough times to see this film, never again.
“Urban Legends: Bloody Mary” is a dreadful sequel but even worse, a waste of potential.

The “porn” Buck Jacoby was watching on the motel contains a scene from a dream sequence from Urban Legends: Final Cut (2000) where Amy dreams she was having sex with Trevor.

In 2007 Sony sold the rights to the franchise and a fourth installment was planned, called Urban Legends: Goldfield Murders. However, after being impressed by the DVD sales of Urban Legends: Bloody Mary, Sony bought back the rights to the franchise. The film was later released under the title Ghosts of Goldfield.
