Well, Netflix has done it again and has a hit on their hands.  This weekend was the release of the first season of the new Netflix series exploding from the Marvel universe known as the Defenders.  The Defenders are a “team” of heroes that bond together to protect the world from EVIL. This isn’t an ordinary team like the F4 or the Avengers, the aren’t friends, in many ways they are strangers whose paths of crossed countless times but are forced to work together to defeat evil from destroying the world.

Since the show is on Netflix, you knew the team would consist of Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Daredevil, unlike the comic’s original team of the Hulk, Dr. Strange,  and Namor.  Some comic fans were in protest about the changes to the team, but their is really no argument if you look at it this way, since the Defenders first debuted on August of ’72, the team has changed members countless times.  So, it only made since to make a team of the heroes that Netflix knew the fans already loved, hence the team up of Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Daredevil.  Hell, they are already “adding” members to the team by throwing Stick and Misty Knight in the mix as well.  So who knows what will happen during each season of the series.

I admit, I only watched four episodes of the Defenders so far but I do like what I see and I think you will to.  We all know from the trailers that you have seen on YouTube as well as any comic-con you may have attended that the Hand is the enemy that ties this group of heroes together.  What you didn’t see is what it took for the four to agree to work together.  What I enjoyed most about the show was the chemistry, especially between Fist and Cage. It some ways, it brought me back to when I was a kid reading the original Power Man and Iron Fist comics as well as the Heroes for Hire series.  You know what I mean, that competitive spirit between the two.  Anyway, I feel that Netflix has another hit on their hands and the Defenders will be around for a while.

I did not want to give any spoilers, so this is the end of my spoiler free review.  I give the series a 10 out of 10 and I cannot wait to see what happens next.  In fact, I think I hear my TV calling me to finish season 1.  Until next time, unleash your inner NERD!
