The-Lego-Movie-Trailer

My hopes and expectations for the Lego Movie went through quite a few changes ever since it had been announced. At first, I was a bit angry. Though I love movies, I have a natural distrust of Hollywood. I was certain that they were going to screw up the movie… until I saw a trailer. After that I got really excited. But then I got scared again because I was also excited for Green Lantern and remember how that turned out? Then I learned that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were in charge of the project and they did Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and then I got excited once again.

In the end, my excitement was well deserved as I loved every single moment of The Lego Movie. I had a smile on my face from the very first scene to the very last and I can’t even begin to imagine how this movie could have been any better.

First off, you should go into this movie knowing you’re going into a goofy animated movie which is based around a child’s toy that’s been around since 1949. Trust me on the date, Wikipedia told me and Wikipedia is never ever wrong. But I digress… You should also be prepared for a nice mix of smart humor and dumb and easy jokes. This isn’t a simple movie at all. It has a plot that was wonderfully thought out and lead to a climax that was simultaneously heart-warming and triumphant.

An amazing cast lends their voices to the movie and if you’ve even just skimmed the IMDB page you’ll have seen names like Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Alison Brie, Anthony Daniels, Morgan Freeman, and Liam Neeson. For the sake of space I left out twelve other names of well known actors who had a hand in this movie. I also don’t want to give you all the names because part of the fun of the movie was trying to figure out which actor was behind which voice. The people behind Green Lantern and Wonder Woman really surprised me.

Well all know star power alone can’t save a movie (Batman Forever, anyone?), but in the case of The Lego Movie every factor came together beautifully to create a film that was truly enjoyable to watch. If I had feelings (which I don’t because I have a cold, black heart) I might have even shed tears at certain parts where the feels flowed like wine.

This is the most nerd friendly movie I’ve seen in a long time. It’s a treasure trove of references and beloved characters which will keep you smiling for the entire hour and forty minutes. If you’ve already seen the movie you might be asking yourself why I left out so much about plot. Guess what? For a synopsis you can go to IMDB. Anything other than that is a potential spoiler. I don’t want to risk ruining anything for even one reader because this was the first time in recent history where I truly had no idea what to expect and it was refreshing turn of pace. That’s not to say I didn’t see certain plots points coming a mile away, but I was having so much fun that the predictability didn’t matter at all.
