Greetings my fellow NERDs! How is your MARVELous Monday going? Mine started out just fine. Besides being alive and well, I started the day by watching one of my favorite films, Guardians of the Galaxy. After the film was over, I sat down to write this post for you to enjoy. Today, starts a new era for Derf’s Domain as well as Somewhatnerdy. So, I decided to make some changes to how some of my posts are written. For example, today I have an interview with a very talented comic artist. I decided to call my future interviews with comic artists “Artist Spotlight” because simply, that is what we are doing. I want to spotlight the talents that are out there in the world of comics for you to enjoy. Today’s spotlight focuses on the one and only Gerardo Sandoval. He is a power house for Marvel Comics. He has worked on classic characters such as Spider-Man, Cable and Wolverine and he is now the main artist on the hit Guardians 3000 comic(pick up your copy today). So, without further delay, I give you my interview with Gerardo Sandoval.
SWN: Who are you and where are you from?
GS – I am a Marvel comics artist and I come from México.
SWN: I love your artwork! Can you tell us what comic book titles you have worked on?
GS – For the North American industry: Tomb Raider, Evil Ernie, Insane Clown Posse, Captain Marvel, What if: Avengers vs X-Men, Cable and the X-Force, Wolverine, X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy and now as the main artist for the new Marvel’s Guardians 3000.
SWN: One of my favorite projects of yours is your work on Marvel’s Guardians 3000 title. Do you have a favorite title that you have worked on?
GS – Well, Wolverine is one of my favorite characters and I really loved to work in those books.
4. Besides Guardians, any exciting projects coming up?
GS – Yes, but I can’t talk about it.
SWN: Nice, cannot wait to see what it is. What was your first illustration as a comic artist?
GS – The Mexican version of “The Little Flintstones” when I was 17 years old.
SWN: When did you know that drawing comics would be your career?
GS – When I saw for the first time the art of Todd McFarlane in Spider-man. Was for me a huge surprise to see someone having all the freedom to do whatever he wanted with his pages. A total inspiration for me.
SWN: What projects are you working on that you cannot wait to share with the world?
GS – This is a good question, but the reason why I can’t wait to talk about it it’s because actually I can’t talk about it. :D
SWN: More secrets eh? Love it! I’ll find out somehow. Now, if you could be a part of any creative team to create any figure in comics history, past or present, who would it be and why?
GS – I think that the 90’s was the biggest moment in the American comics industry, the creation of Image Comics with all the top rock stars involved, was a huge success. I would loved to be part of those days as professional creator and been part of that Image Comics time.
SWN: If you were not in the world of comics, where would you be?
GS – I don’t have idea. I can’t see myself doing some other stuff but comics and I never had in my mind other profession but to draw super heroes. So I can’t see myself in other profession but doing comic books an that is why I fought for my dreams with all my heart and soul.
SWN: Where can my readers see more of your work?
GS – My site: www.gerardo-sandoval.com (there you can find my twitter, tumblr, Facebook and deviantart)
You can check updates two or three times per week in my Facebook.
SWN: I want to take this time to thank Gerardo Sandoval for taking the time to answer my questions. I am a huge fan and wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors. I cannot wait to see what other projects he will have for us to enjoy in the future. Until next time, get your READ on!
