Greetings NERDs and Nerdettes,
It is time once again that I showcase a wonderful cosplayer. Today’s spotlight features a Jersey girl that goes by the name Sapphire Nova. She also has a big part in the cosplay squad known as Superheroes Unlimited. She is very talented and I am sure you will see her work for years to come. With that said, Ghouls and Goblins, here is my interview with the one and only Sapphire Nova.
SWN: Who are you and where are you from?
SN: I’m Sapphire Nova. I live in New Jersey.
SWN: How did you discover cosplay?
SN: I started going to midnight movie premieres when the Lord of the Rings first came out. I had so much fun connecting with other people who were also attending the movie in costume that I wanted to go to ever movie in costume. Later on I went to my first comic convention and found that there was a whole group of people who had the same passion for costumes as I did.
SWN: I really love your version of the Gamora. How did that I dead come to mind?
SN: I was looking for a Cosplay that I hadn’t seen done by too many people. I’ve been a fan of Guardians of the Galaxy for awhile so I thought of Gamora.
SWN: What genres do you cosplay? Which genre is your favorite?
SN: I cosplay superheroes/villains, movies, anime, and I’m working on a video game one. I like them all but superheroes will always be my first love.
SWN: What is your favorite way to show off a new cosplay?
SN: At a con! I like to surprise people with new stuff! ?
SWN: If you had to pick one, which cosplay is your favorite?
SN: Sooooo tough! Now that I just added the white out contacts, I’m feeling Gamora as my favorite. I tend to change my mind a lot though. It might be different in a couple weeks. (Ha Ha!)
SWN: What was your first cosplay?
SN: My true first cosplay was an elf from Lord of the Rings, but my first for a convention was Gamora.
SWN: Do you have any new cosplays that you are working on at this moment?
SN: I’m slowly working on a Red Sonja cosplay and a version of the Cheshire Cat. I also have a couple other minor ones that I’ll be showing off on Facebook and Instagram
SWN: Where can our readers see more of your work?
SN: You can follow me on the following sites.
Facebook: SapphireNovaCosplay & SuperherosUnlimited (you can see my work here as well as that of a lot of other awesome cosplayers)
Instagram: SapphireNovaSHU
SWN: What can you tell us about Super Hero Unlimited?
SN: It’s my husband’s and my company. We sell custom costumes – put simply, we make anything someone can bring us a picture of. We have a team of cosplayers who work with us to bring everyone high quality cosplays.
SWN: What is your role with the company?
SN: I model and create. I will occasionally handle some of the accessories and props, and we’re just getting into wigs which I’ve been handling the styling so far.
SWN: Do you have any advice for those new to the world of cosplay?
SN: Just get started. We all start somewhere. I started with a prom dress and a pair of elf ears. Everything else you will learn as you go. That’s most of the fun – seeing what new things you can learn to do.
SWN: I want to thank Sapphire Nova for taking the time to do this interview. I also strongly suggest that you look at her pages and follow her for more exciting cosplays to come. Until next time, unleash your inner NERD!
