First of all, let me tell you how excited I am to have gotten this interview. I have been a fan of hers for years. She is probably one of the most recognizable ALT Models in the world. Her photos are all over the world wide web. Yes, she is a Suicide Girl, and yes she enjoys to cosplay, which is the main reason for this interview. You can see some of her cosplay works on a NSFW website known as Cosplay Deviants. This interview has been months in the making but I am honored to finally say,”Ladies and Gentlemen, my interview with Vivid Vivka”.
SWN: First of all let me tell you that I have been a fan of yours for a long time. But for those who may not know, who are you and where are you from?
VV: Daw, you sweetie. <3
I’m Vivid Vivka. I’m a small girl with colorful hair and a tiny dog, and I’m just trying to do big things. I was born and raised in Detroit, and now I am based near Los Angeles.
SWN: How did you discover cosplay?
VV: I’ve always preferred “dressing up” over “real clothes” since ever. I would take sheets and use them as cape as a child, wear hot-glued costumes to Renn Faires, get elaborate on Halloweens… then I started building weird themed costumes and outfits to wear on the weekends, to clubs. Then I started building specific outfits, based on characters I saw and loved via anime, cartoons, comics. Then I learned, ZE GODZ, tons of people do this. Together. At a place called “con”.
One con and I was hooked.
SWN: What characters have you cosplayed?
VV: I do a lot of variations of Joker (Burlesque Joker, classic Joker, Joker-cosplaying-Batman) and classic Harley Quinn. I’ve done Vincent Valentine (from FF7), San (Princess Mononoke), Jack Skellington (Nightmare before Christmas), QuickSilver (Xmen – Days of Future Past), BellDandy (Ah! My Goddess!), and LOTS of original fantasy characters…. I’ve got a thing for elves.
SWN: Do you have a favorite genre to cosplay?
VV: While I don’t have a favorite, I do tend to cosplay from comics more than anything else.
SWN: What is your favorite way to show off a new cosplay?
VV: Without a doubt, via my Patreon. Sometimes people on my Patreon even help me decide who I will be dressing up as next! I post lots of WIP shots and tutorials of how I make things, and bts of my photoshoots of the final costumes. Patreon is my way to show those who want a more detailed look into what I do!
SWN: I know you are also a successful alt model. What gets you excited more, modeling or modeling cosplay?
VV: I’ve been an alt model for so many years… I honestly was getting quite bored with it. Cosplay and Patreon have both given my hobby a whole new life, and been able to turn it into a career. Now I’m able to shoot whatever weird wild fun idea I have, and really pour everything into making a costume of the character I love.
Without a doubt… cosplay is the bestestest.
SWN: What are your plans for the future?
VV: More armor. Bigger wigs. MOAR COSPLAY.
I also hope to start branching out to YouTube and maybe twitch…. but for now my main focus is costumes and Patreon.
SWN: We look forward to seeing that. Where can my readers see more examples of your work?
VV: Take your pick… cause I’m all over the internet! I have a Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, ETSY… of course Patreon, which I’ve mentioned a few times. I will be on YouTube and Twitch and TheVividVivka.com will be launching soon!
SWN: If you had to pick one cosplay, which one is your favorite?
VV: Impossibruuuuuu. As cheesy as it sounds, as soon as I finish a costume, its my favorite. To me, its just the tip top and it will never get any better. Then a make a new one… and THAT is my favorite. Then the next, and the next.
Right now I’m working on Hannah, from Rat Queens, and its MY FAVS. <3
