I have said it before and I will say it again, I cannot get enough of this series! I love the writing of Bendis and Mack and how they successfully made a modern day mystery novel out of a great comic character. Just exactly what does “Mapone” mean and exactly who knows if anyone? These questions and much more are beginning asked by Daily Bugle reporter Ben Urich.
In issue #5, we ended with Ben falling out of a hospital window thanks to the berserk actions of the Bullet who was on a mission to kill the Bushwacker. Issue #6 begins where #5 left off. Ben is falling and is wondering why he always ends up in these situations when out of nowhere a hand grabs Ben and pulls him to safety. Who saves Ben? Well it appears to be Daredevil, but that’s impossible because Matt is dead. So is this the one that Matt may have trained to take his place? Who knows, only time will tell. After getting Ben to safety, the Daredevil asks him who did this. Ben tells him Bullet before he passes out.
Then we find Ben waking up in a hospital with his son at his side. His son lets him know that Bullet is dead thanks to Daredevil. Then they get in an argument about how a hero should act and killing is not the hero’s way. But his son wants none of it because the man who hurt his father is not going to be able to hurt anyone else.
After been get himself checked out the hospital, he plans a visit with the Owl. Everyone in Hell’s Kitchen knows the evil and crazy things done by the Owl. He and Daredevil have a violent past and that is why Ben pays him a visit. During his visit he learns that the Owl acquired the cowl of Daredevil, and not just any cowl, the one he was wearing when he died. Of course this disgusts him and he leaves to follow a new lead.
This time he goes to see Mr. Purple, another villain from Matt’s adventures. While he is waiting to see Mr. Purple, he finds out that the Owl was just murdered. Someone shot him to death. He is finally allowed to see Mr. Purple only to come face to face with a dead Mr. Purple. He is sitting behind his desk, having just been shot between the eyes. Ben also, sees the assassin and it will surprise you who the shooter is, or will it? You will have to get the issue to find out who it is.
Issue # 6 gets another 15 out of 10 rating from me. It is killing me to know this title is almost over. I do not want this story to end. I hope, Marvel Studios plans to make a film from this book. It is that damn good! So what are you waiting for? Get your copy today while you still can. For those of you who already have a copy, do what I do, read them over and over again.
