Looking for something binge worthy? Well, Amazon Prime’s series the Boys is a must see! I watched it from beginning to end on day one of it’s release and will probably watch it again before week’s end.
I was first introduced to the Boys back in 2006 when the comics first hit the shelves. At the time I was a regular at a local comic store and my “paper crack” dealer knew I was a huge fan of Garth Ennis and he suggested I check out the new series, the Boys that Garth had written. So, of course I said Hell Yeah and bought the first issue. From issue one I was hooked because of its new take on the world of Super Heroes.
You see, in the Boys, the heroes are not always what they seem. The Boys are a Black Ops crew that patrol and keep the heroes in check. If a hero commits a no no, than more than likely that hero will disappear. The main plight that the Boys must face is the Seven. They are this universe’s version of the Justice League or Avengers except they are corrupt.
The TV series on Amazon Prime takes the stories from the comics and puts their own creative spin to it, but the plot stays the same. The Super Heroes are not so SUPER. They feel they are above man’s law and if someone gets hurt during their shift, so be it.
The team consists of the Butcher, Mother’s Milk, the Frenchman, the Female, and “Wee” Hughie Campbell. Butcher is out for blood because of what Homelander did to his life. The rest of the Boys have issues with the Seven and Vought International as well. Who is Vought International? They are the company behind all “supes”, including the Seven. The Seven takes orders from V.I., but for how long?
Getting back to the Boys, Keith Urban does one hell of a job as the Butcher. For a fan of the comic, I was glad to see he did the character justice. In fact all the actors who portrayed the Boys did each character justice. The show is well written and you find yourself routing for the Boys just like when you read the comics.
If you haven’t read the comics, you must do so…but for now, check out the Boys on Amazon Prime. I will warn you, both the comic and show is very graphic. This isn’t your kids super heroes, trust me! I really want to tell you more, but I do not want to ruin it for you so I will not.
I give the Boys a strong 9 out of 10 stars. Please, make sure to leave enough time to watch all 8 episodes in one seating. Why? Because once you start, you will not want to stop.
Until next time, unleash your inner NERD!
