My first review for an issue #0 of the new 52 is for the Detective Comics issue. Detective Comics #0 has everything that a Batman fan should know. We all know that Bruce Wayne has traveled the world, perfecting his skills before wearing the cowl of the Batman, but we were never given any insight. Well, my friends, that changes in this issue.
The story takes place in the Himalayas, about ten years ago. Bruce was there to learn from the master, Shihan Matsuda. Master Matsuda took young Bruce under his wing to teach him what he knew, not only in the skills of the martial arts, but in life as well. The thing that proved very hard for Bruce was focus.
You see, there is a girl named Mio, which caught Bruce’s fancy. From time to time, Master Matsuda could tell Bruce was distracted and that until the distraction was no more, he would never really understand what was being taught. Matsuda’s wife disagreed and told Bruce that he should follow his heart. Well, that would prove to be costly.
I am not going to tell you everything that happens in this issue because I want you to go to the store and get your own copy. This story is worth reading for any Batman fan. I will tell you that you understand why Bruce is always distant towards others when you read this issue.
Another thing I liked about the issue was the short story “the Long Wait”. This story deals with what Alfred had to deal with until Bruce came back. You find out that Alfred has a short fuse of his own.
I give this issue a 10 out of 10 rating and I look forward to the future for Detective Comics. I love the artwork done by Tony S. Daniel. When you see his name, you know the artwork is going to be top notch. Until next time, Happy Reading!
