EA has entered a “multi-year exclusive” licensing agreement for the production of all STAR WARS “core” games. EA will have access to all assets and characters but Disney has kept rights to license out mobile games to other developers.
I saw this coming the day LucasArts closed. On the good side of this you have Bioware, D.I.C.E, Crytek and Visceral Games who are all affiliated with EA publishing and make incredible work. On the not so good side of this we can likely expect overpowered weapons in Dlc packs, pre-produced Dlc and just the general EA mantra of nickel and dime-ing us to death.
According to EA three studios are already working on STAR WARS games, D.I.C.E., Visceral and of course Bioware will continue working on SWTOR.
Yes you read that right D.I.C.E., makers of the Battlefield series, is making a STAR WARS game. Could this be Battlefront 3? I can only hope so.
I would also take a guess that Visceral Games (Dead Space series) may be the ones to finish up STAR WARS: 1313 as they have proven their chops in the 3rd person shooter genre.
I will say I am highly optimistic about this deal and if EA wants to squeeze the pennies out of every gamer alive they just figured out how to get mine.
Also, one last time, D.I.C.E. IS MAKING A STAR WARS GAME!!!!!
