Earth 2 from DC Comics was the target of some controversy because issue #2 shows that Alan Scott is gay. So What? Yeah that changes some of the past issues you may have in your long box but that is why DC is calling these titles the new 52. Anyway, the focus of issue #2 should have been the fact that the Earth 2 Flash was born or created shall I say.
Issues #3 starts right were #2 left off. A bullet train crashes in China. Mostly everyone is dead but one survivor is granted a gift. That survivor was Alan Scott and the gift was to become the champion of the Earth. In accepting the power and the responsibility he becomes a jade knight but we know that his name better as the Green Lantern.
Green Lantern’s story is not the only story to be told. The Flash finds himself in Poland. He also finds out that he is not alone. Earth 2’s Hawkgirl is waiting for him. She wants his help to figure out who is killing off everything not only in Poland, but across the world.
As we find out later in the book, the Earth is being consumed by the man of grey and that is what is destroying the Earth. The man of grey is after the Earth’s new champion, the Green Lantern. Who is the man of grey you say? He is none other than Grundy.
I personally do not like the look of Grundy. I am biased since Grundy is one of my favorite characters from back in the day, but I understand DC wanting to modernize the man of grey. Anyway, the Earth 2 stories have been well written and the artwork is great. I definitely recommend that you check these titles out. Don’t let the media influence your decision either way. If you want to read a great comic, pick up the Earth 2 titles from DC Comics.
