First things first, buy this issue! Punisher: Nightmare is a 5 issue limited series that will come out weekly from Marvel Comics. I haven’t gotten issue #2 yet, but you can bet I will soon. This series is amazing!
Punisher: Nightmare follows our friend Frank as he continues to punish the evil in the streets. In issue #1, we are allowed in Frank’s mind to see how the Punisher was born, especially when Frank reads about an Iraq war veteran who is gunned down with his family in the crossfire of a mob hit. Of course this hits home to Frank and he knows someone needs to be punished.
While on his mission, Frank visits this father in the hospital and lets him know he plans to make things right. Before Frank can leave the room, the veteran makes it clear that he plans on killing those who killed his family. It seems that Frank may have a kindred spirit in the making. Just who is this man known as “Johnny Nightmare”? Does he have what it takes to become the monster that Frank became when his family died? Will Frank allow John to get justice by his own hands? These are questions that can be answered when you pick up your issues of Punisher: Nightmare today.
I cannot say enough positive things about this book. Gimple’s writing is spot on and the art of Texeira makes it that much better. Definitely a great creative team! Any Punisher fan should get this book, and if you are not a Punisher fan, you should get the book as well. After reading this book, everyone will be a Punisher fan. This is by far the best book that has come from Marvel this year. I give this book a rating of 15 out of 10. With titles like Daredevil: End of Days and Punisher: Nightmare, it seems that this will be a great year for Marvel’s limited series collections.
