In a Stateside hotel during the height of World War II, young Danny Coogan dreams of joining the war effort. Following the murder of hotel guest Mr. Toulon by Nazi assassins, Danny finds the old man’s crate of mysterious puppets and is suddenly thrust into a battle all his own. He discovers that Nazis Max and Klaus, along with beautiful Japanese saboteur Ozu, plan to attack a secret American manufacturing plant. After his family is attacked and his girlfriend Beth is kidnapped, it is up to Danny and the living deadly Puppets to stop this Axis of Evil.
In yet another prequel, the evil Nazi’s who were sent to kill Toulon & steal his secrets (From the opening scene in Puppet Master 1) hook up with an evil Japanese woman & her two henchmen, to try & blow up a building that will cost many people their lives & try & figure out where Toulon has stashed his puppets & secret re- animation formula, in order to use it to help their countries use it as a weapon against their enemies, to help win the war.
As you could tell from the plot summary, this is yet ANOTHER prequel! which must set some kind of record. With “Puppet Master vs Demonic Toys” at-least we saw a step forward. How David DeCoteau got the directors job AGAIN after all his failures is still a mystery to me, but here we are with his latest and hopefully last Puppet Master’s entry.
We also get 2 new puppets in this entry, which is also a mystery to me as it’s a prequel. We get Ninja and Gengie. Ninja houses the soul of Danny’s murdered brother, an American soldier. We also get our old favourites as usual with Blade, Tunneller, Six-Shooter and more.
I never thought I’d say this but I do hope this is the last entry in the series, David DeCoteau seriously messed up this great franchise and his weaknesses as director shine through in this film. The man has no vision at all and the stock footage he uses must be worn out by now. If there is a new entry then get a new director.
The film is a very weak one, bad acting, bad dialogue, bad plot. Which is saying something when you’re expectations aren’t really set high with a b-movie franchise about killer puppets. I’m all for a good prequel but by this point there is nothing new to show us, we’ve seen it all and heard it all.
It’s such a shame that a film that had fans excited again flopped so much, it’s a deceiving poster, makes you think it’s a film that is moving forward again, but once again it takes ten steps back.
