Eggs of the small, furry alien carnivores are left behind on Earth and, after hatching, set their appetites on the next neighboring town.
With the surprising success of “Critters” it was inevitable that a sequel would come along, luckily for us they stuck to the blueprint from the first film.
This sequel continues two years after our adventure from the first film and it seems this time they had more freedom to do what they wanted. The film often gets unfairly slated as a sub-standard sequel but personally I really enjoy it, Let me tell you why.
One of the good things about this movie is that the like-able characters from the first movie return, characters such as Scott Grimes as ‘Brad Brown’, Don Keith Opper as ‘Charlie McFadden’ and Terrence Mann as ‘Ug’. Not only are they like-able characters they’re also highly essential so it was great to see them back and not replaced by another actor, that always really annoys me.
It seems with this film that with more freedom they went ahead and ramped everything up-to maximum. With Roxanne Kernohan as ‘Lee’ we see her spend quite a bit of the movie topless and she also has a couple of sexual innuendo jokes, talking about jokes we still see a-lot of comedic elements are still in the film and are even better than the first film. Also the actors seem more aware of what the crowd want, as does Director Mick Garris so the characters seem better this time round.
The Critters themselves are more gorier this time around and honestly it suits there deranged ways and I prefer to see them this way, they’re smart, clever monsters with their own language and strategies and it’s like were seeing them evolve here. We get to see more of them with this sequel and watching these fluffballs go on a rampage is never dull.
“Critters 2: The Main Course” is a fun film and carries on the story of our Crites, The Bounty Hunters and the people who get involved even though they don’t want to. As sequels go it’s a good one and if you enjoyed the first then you should watch this.
