Well folks, there you have it. The entire “Pumpkinhead” series review.
It’s been interesting looking over this franchise.
The origin of the story of ‘Pumpkinhead’ was actually a poem that was wrote by Ed Justin, it goes like this:
“Keep away from Pumpkinhead,
Unless you’re tired of living.
His enemies are mostly dead,
He’s mean and unforgiving.
Laugh at him and your undone,
But in some dreadful fashion.
Vengeance he considers fun,
And plans it with a passion.
Time will not erase or blot,
A plot that he has brewing.
It’s when you think that he’s forgot,
He’ll conjure your undoing.
Bolted doors and windows barred.
Guard dogs prowling in your yard.
Won’t protect you in your bed.
Nothing will, from Pumpkinhead.”
The film also had a comic spin-off, a four parter courtesy of Dark Horse comics. It was a great read but unfortunately ended on a cliff hanger after it was stopped after only two releases, I’m not sure why that happened but it really was a shame. The artwork and story were truly well done and I know a few fans who have read it and still can’t understand why it was stopped.
There has been talk of a sequel or remake over the last few years, personally if there was a new release I’d love to see a prequel. We don’t really know too much about the origins of how the monster came to be and his ties to the old witch lady. I was quite shocked we didn’t already have a sequel as franchises usually go down that route by film number three.
“Pumpkinhead” mainly has a cult following and in my opinion is an under-rated franchise, just skip number two (you won’t miss out on anything) and you’ll be just fine.
