Well folks, there you have it. The entire “Sleepaway Camp” series review.
It’s been so much fun looking over one of my favourite franchises.
The original film has gained cult status over the years amongst Horror fans and for good reason, some may view it as a typical 80’s slasher movie and yes, to be truthful it is but it also had one of the most shocking endings in Horror. People who haven’t seen the film for years may not remember much about the film but they still remember THAT ending.
The sequels of the franchise are pure b-movie entertainment and we saw the role of ‘Angela’ being played by Pamela Springsteen. She took on the character very well and even though she’s a complete 180° of the ‘Angela’ we saw in the first film it worked well for what they went for. Some people even think she’s a better portrayal of the character.
For quite a few years now there has been rumours of a new “Sleepaway Camp” film, even though we saw some characters return for “Return To Sleepaway Camp” this new film would see more of them return in a film called “Sleepaway Camp REunion-3D”. Apart from the 3D factor I’d like to see this film be made, we have so many unanswered questions.
Whatever happened to ‘Aunt Martha’? Was she jailed or sectioned after what she did to ‘Angla’? Did ‘Judy’ really die, if not what happened to her? These are just some of the questions we’ve been left with that could be part of the story in the new film.
“Sleepaway Camp” is a highly enjoyable franchise, it has so much to offer and I feel, very overlooked. In my opinion it should be highly regarded as much as the others in our beloved genre.
