A group of reality show contestants find themselves fighting for their survival against a family of hideously deformed inbred cannibals who plan to ruthlessly butcher them all.

The first film was a massive hit, it was more a shock that it took so long for a sequel to arrive.

WrongTurn2-01118

I was a huge fan of “Wrong Turn” so I was so psyched for this when it was announced, but I must admit that when I saw the trailer I wasn’t exactly thrilled. Despite this I knew I still had to watch it and, well I had mixed feelings about it.

Sequels are risky business and this sequel sits on the line between good and bad, it has some truly great moments but these are hampered by certain moments that don’t let it live up to it’s predecessor which is a real shame.

This was Director Joe Lynch’s first full feature so you can forgive him for certain aspects, no offence to him as I do like his work but I do feel that this sequel would have been handled better with a more experienced Director.

The cast is actual quite good and the fact that Henry Rollins is featured is great as I love his work and he always plays a great badass, the rest of the cast do a great job and the incestual family are once again terrifying but in a different way this time.

“Wrong Turn 2 – Dead End” is a fun enough sequel but I do feel it could have been better.

Miscellaneous facts about the film:

Director Joe Lynch originally wanted to have more inbred characters in the film, but was unable to because there were already too many characters to service in the film.

This film was designed as a homage to 80s horror sequels.

The opening scene with Kimberly Caldwell was originally supposed to involve Eliza Dushku playing herself in a cameo.

Erica Leerhsen did a lot of her own stunts in the movie.

Wayne Robson is the only cast member to return from the first movie.

The cackling laughter from Three Finger is actually from director Joe Lynch, after unsuccessful attempts from the actor playing Three Finger prompted a last second ADR to get the voice similar to the character’s trademark laugh in the first film.

The original script involved the two surviving characters of the first movie returning. This idea was later scrapped when they decided to make a DTV sequel entry.

Kimberly Caldwell’s film debut; she worked for two days on this movie.

Shot in only 25 days.

According to director Joe Lynch on the DVD commentary, 300 gallons of blood were used in the film.

The character of Nina was pregnant in an earlier draft of the script.

The only film in the series that does not contain at least one scene of drug use.

Henry Rollins was the first official cast member announced.

The song Nina (Erica Leerhsen) is listening to at the beginning of the film is “Wake Pig” from progressive metal band 3’s album of the same name.

Director Joe Lynch edited his own teaser trailer in March of 2007 with music from composer Bear McCreary and released it exclusively to DreadCentral.com after being disappointed with the first teaser FOX released a month before.

In original script, in the scene where Elena tries to seduce Jake and later has oral sex with Michael, she was also supposed to be completely nude during the entire scene and go skinny dipping after Jake leaves both her and Michael, while in the movie she is only topless for short amount of time.
