I have been invited to start writing for Reel Rank News on Medium and it’s going to tie into what I write here for SomewhatNerdy. I have been a user of Reel Rank since mid January and I already love it. You can be both a lover of Reel Rank and Letterboxd because even though you can track the movies you watch on both websites, they’re unique experiences. Reel Rank is ad free without a subscription and, in fact, you can’t even subscribe to it. It’s a free experience that’s user driven.

What do I mean by that? Well I just watched a movie from 1995 called The Immortals with Eric Robets and Tia Carrere. It was a straight to video crime thriller and when I went to enter it in Reel Rank, it wasn’t there. Oh No! You may say as you clutch your pearls. “But Billiam,” you may be saying, “Letterboxd would already have the movie listed!” Whoa there, friend. Allow me to explain. Reel Rank already as a ton of movies in its system but it’s also missing a lot. Here’s one way this experience is driven by the users. You simply add the movie youself. If you want to see how you do it, I put a bare bones guide at the end of this blog. So on top of logging and rating movies you can also follow other users, comment on their posts, you can start discussion topics, and you can make lists that they call “reels.”
So what does this mean for me? Well, as one of their more annoying users (i just post a lot), I was invited to start writing for their group on Medium. What will I be writing about? I’ll just be sharing my opinions on movie related news stories. I will be posting those blogs here on SomewhatNerdy first, though as I’ve been encouraged to link back to SWN to hopefully increase traffic back to the website that feels like home because it’s where Billiam The Nerd and Future Flicks with Billiam was born.

So please keep checking back here for my news stories as they come out as well as give me a follow on Medium if you’re on that site/app. I, of course, go by BilliamTheNerd there as well.
So, about adding movies on Reel Rank:
It’s super easy. When you search for a film and it doesn’t come up, you just click on “add it here” at the bottom of the search results. You’ll be taken to a new page asking for the movie name aind the release date (I find IMDB is the most accurate) so enter that info and then hit quick search and it should automatically fill in the rest. Worst case scenario for some super obscure films is that it doesn’t come up. In that case I just added the info myself. Easy Peasy.
