A reporter investigating the bizarre death of a woman who leaped from a building in flames finds herself mixed up in a cult of witches who are making her part of their sacrificial ceremony during the Christmas season.
There are 2 names for this film there’s the title it was originally released under “Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 4: Initiation” and the other title is “Bugs” the reason being that the only thing this film has to do with Christmas is that it’s around the Christmas period, no killer Santa’s or deranged brothers. it’s a new story and I wish they’d stuck with the title “Bugs” as this seriously has nothing to do with the “Silent Night, Deadly Night” franchise.
Despite the fact it has nothing to do with the “Silent Night, Deadly Night” franchise it is an alright film, it stars one of my favorite actor, Clint Howard. It’s like the “Halloween 3” of the series, you either love it or hate it, If I’d watched it under the title “Bugs” I think I would have enjoyed it more, it’s not what you expect at all and the storyline is very Non Christmas.
The cast isn’t exactly fantastic but they are watch-able, the story is intriguing. It does take a while for you to get into it, it starts off very slowly but then throws you in at the deep end, which, depending on the story/writer, can work well or fall flat and it fall’s very flat.
Clint Howard is fantastic as always, he always plays the creepy guy so well, yes he maybe type-cast in these roles but he plays them so well that it’s hard to imagine him as anyone else. He keeps you entertained in the film, the awkward sex scene with him on the edge of the bed is hilarious and easily my favorite scene of the film.
Despite this it is hard to keep interested and it drags on and on, the ending is well done but that doesn’t make up for the rest of the film. You just feel like they didn’t try hard enough, I wish they would’ve stuck with the killer Santa story’s, I felt there was more they could do with it.
If you haven’t seen it don’t go rushing to find it unless you want to watch the whole franchise, you’re not missing any plot points, hell you’re not missing anything at all really.
