If you are like me, you are a Darth Maul fan.  When he met his “end” at the end of Episode 1, I was pissed.  But then, I started thinking he never really died.  And of course any fan of the Star Wars universe knows the writers felt the same way and kept him alive, at least until his end by the hands of Kenobi.  That is another story for another time.

Death Sentence is a mini-series published by Dark Horse to follow the part of Maul’s life we are not aware of.  We know he survived the fall.  We also know that it was his brother Savage Opress that saved him on brought him back home to Dathomir.  It was on Dathomir that he was given cybernetic legs and his mind was healed by Mother Talzin.  But what lease on life did Maul take after his “rebirth”?

Darth Maul did what any sith would do.  He killed and left a trail of mayhem in the distant galaxies.  He did not do this alone, for his brother Savage Opress was with him.  They focused on the Outer Rim to build an army of their own, but their actions have been getting attention, perhaps the kind they so desperately desire.

Issue #1 starts with a group of mercenaries trying to lay claim on the price that are on Maul and Opress’s heads.  But their fortunes were not they great for they were slaughtered like cattle. As the bounty hunters meet their end we are introduced to Master Salmara and Master Judd.  They have been given the task of getting intel on the doings of the person responsible for the bounty on Maul and his brother.  They are also asked to give Kenobi any info that they may discover dealing with Maul.

The story then follows the brother’s attacks on the planet Moorjhone.  You see, it is here where they will get their revenge on the being known as Ja’boag.  He is the one who has placed a price on the brother’s heads.  Once they defeat a small army, they are prepared to kill Ja’boag when they are interrupted by Jedi.  This makes Darth Maul very happy.  It was as if, he wanted a fight.

That is how issue #1 ends my friends and I must say it is definitely a book you need to pick up right now.  I cannot wait to see what happens in issue #2!  The writing is phenomenal and art is fantastic!  This book gets a 15 out of 10 rating.  Well, what are you waiting for?  Get your copy now!
