As we last left the Avengers in issue#3, they reluctantly joined with Dr. Doom to help “cure” the world and make it a better place. Well, Hawkeye doesn’t trust Doom and follows Deadpool into Doom’s dining area. What he sees makes him realize that they were fooled. What does he see? Well, this is where issue #4 begins.
Hawkeye learns that Dr. Doom is not immune to the disease, that he in fact is diseased. Hawkeye then attacks in a fit of rage and manages to escape death. He regroups with the Black Widow and the Punisher letting them know what has transpired. Frank knew the war had begun and he knew what needed to be done. So they go on a killing spree. The Punisher and Hawkeye go their separate ways towards the end. Hawkeye is now the last Avenger and he is going to take down Doom. He manages to achieve his goal only to meet his end by someone he used to call friend. In the end of things, the Punisher is still standing to pick up where Hawkeye left off.
When you finish this series, you realize that it is the sequel to the Marvel Universe vs. Wolverine and the prequel to the Marvel Universe vs., the Punisher series. I give major kudos to Marvel for tying these stories together. I loved the Punisher series and now I feel I know more of the story. I never read the Wolverine series but I can guarantee you I will now. I give this issue a perfect rating of 10 out of 10. If you didn’t read any of these titles, be sure to pick up the trade when you see it. You will be glad you did.
