Just who is the Governor? We all know he is the thorn in Rick’s side on the AMC original series “The Walking Dead” but just who is he? That is the number one question we ask ourselves when we were first introduced to this character since his creation by Robert Kirkman, Well, the novel “Rise of the Governor” helps fill in the gaps.
The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor was originally released on October 11, 2011 so I imagine some of our readers are aware of the book and how instrumental it is in the Walking Dead universe. For those of you who are not in the know, Rise of the Governor is a tale of survival which eventually turns the man known as Phillip Blake into what we know as the Governor. Trust me not all is what it seems. When you read this novel, you will understand what I mean. I could talk about this book forever, but that is not fair to you the reader. This book fills in the gaps like what happened to Penny and how his wife died, but more importantly, we are front row in the mind of the man who becomes the Governor.
I was blown away since page one! The writing of Robert Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga was breathtaking. You never knew what was around the corner which is key in any thrilling novel, especially ones dealing with zombies. This book is a must read for any Walking Dead fan and horror fan alike. I give it a strong rating of 4.5 out a 5. This indeed is a modern classic!
