MK Hulk 1

Every once in a while you come across a comic that just grabs you.  I mean, it just moves you a way a comic should move you.  You want to tell the world how important that comic is and that they should read it.  Well, it is that type of comic that has inspired a new post called Comics You Should Be Reading.  The spotlight today is on the Marvel Knights Hulk comic.

For those of you who are out of the loop, Marvel Knights is a style of comic from Marvel that has a little more grit to their heroes.  It allows you to see a dark side that maybe you have never seen.  They were written in the style of a short story so there was never really an ongoing series.  The Marvel Knights series started in 2006 and have some successful story arcs through the years.  In 2013 alone, we saw a resurgence of the Marvel Knight franchise. There have been successful launches of Spider-Man as well as the X-men this past year but the book I feel is a must read is the one starring the Hulk.

The Hulk has always been a character that has intrigued my interest since I was kid.  So when I saw the announcement for Marvel Knights Hulk, I knew it was a must read before seeing any of the artwork or details.  Boy was I right! Most people think the Punisher or Daredevil when they hear Marvel Knights, but the 2013 release of the Hulk will rightfully take its place in the Hall of Fame if the story keeps the pace set in issue #1.

Marvel Knights Hulk #1 starts off in Paris, France. It turns out that Bruce Banner has found himself in dire needs in an exotic place.  The surroundings may be pleasant but the story is the same.  He is on the run from the monster inside as well as the people who want the monster for themselves.  He is found by a beautiful woman named Dyane who just wants to help a stranger in need.  She is knowledgeable in the fields of medicine and helps Bruce get back on his feet.

The following morning, she takes Bruce on a tour of Paris to see if she could be of any further assistance.  she also uses this time to ask Bruce about his wounds and why someone is trying to hurt him.  While Dyane tries to dig deep, others  appear to be digging deeper.  They almost have Bruce but he is able to control the situation which forces the men pursuing him to take drastic measures.

I could tell you more but that is not the meaning of this post. If you are a fan of the Hulk or just the Marvel Knights franchise period, you MUST read this book.  You can still find issue #1 in stores now, but hurry cause issue #2 will be here soon.

The writing style of Joe Keatinge draws you in and you find yourself wanting more.  The art of Piotr Kowalski and the color by Nick Filardi are the perfect blend to match the story.  Everything about this book pulls you in and for one am glad I got this issue and I will definitely be getting the other three.

This book gets a perfect 10 out f 10 rating and I cannot say enough positive things about it.  So, go get your READ on!  Oh, and Hulk Smash!
