How Will It Affect Us?

It may have failed to pass in congress no less than 5 times, but that won’t stop the FCC(Federal Communications Commission) from subverting our legislative branch of government and reaching out to expand its power by attempting to regulate the internet through the power of net neutrality. Attempted once by the FCC back in May, 2010, 300 members of congress contacted them and implored the FCC to abandon its efforts in regulating the internet. The concept they were disparaging encourages your ISP’s to develop tiered services(referred to as price discrimination by economists) focused on prioritizing the flow of your internet speeds. As it was best explained to me, if Sony were to purchase a higher tier of service, the gamers online with their PS3’s would be tickled pink; however, I own an Xbox360 on Microsofts unupgraded service and may find myself slowing to a crawl with a destroyed gaming experience. It wouldn’t be so bad if they had actually developed new technology and were offering faster services, but this is not the case. There would simply be a division of existing bandwith from rich to poor. An argument against such policies consist of the raised operating costs deterring innovation and inhibiting capital investment, ultimately increasing consumer costs and constricting growth of American internet companies goods and services. Seeing as how larger companies could more easily afford these increased rates than smaller companies, it is not conducive to a competetive market in a nation whose growth is stimulated by the creation and survival of new businesses. Good thing we have all these federal agencies to fix all of our problems by working together to make a better tomorrow.

It may have failed to pass in congress no less than 5 times, but that won’t stop the FCC(Federal Communications Commission) from subverting our legislative …

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

1
57,139,140,141,142
post-1530","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-blog","tag-servbot5000","tag-net-neutrality","tag-fcc","tag-federal-agencies","tag-economy","latest_post
["GET
