The Penny Dreadful Picture Show includes three tales of terror, each set in a different decade.<\/h3>\n

When I first wrote about this film I was seriously excited to see it, when I was given the chance to review the film I jumped at the chance.<\/h3>\n

We’re taken into a creepy old theatre and introduced to our hosts for the evening, ‘Penny Dreadfu’l and her two friends (a Zombie and a Werewolf). the film starts with a Tim Burton-ish feel to it, creepy characters and a score you’d swear Danny Elfman wrote but in-fact the composing work was done by the actress who Plays ‘Penny’,\u00a0Eliza Swenson.<\/h3>\n

Talking of Eliza, she plays her character masterfully and seems to be having so much fun in-front of the camera that it shines through and you can’t help but smile. Her companions add to films humorous atmosphere and you find yourself wishing you were sat there alongside them all.<\/h3>\n

The film has 3 segments, all very different from one another, the first is a segment titled “Slash in the Box”, although the short is a video I’m familiar with (I did a post on it on this website a long time ago) it’s still great to see and sets is a perfect starting point for the film, it gets you in the mood for what’s to come and also sits perfectly with the\u00a0macabre humour of our hosts.\u00a0The other 2 segments are admittedly more darker but are both fantastic.<\/h3>\n

\u201cThe Morning After\u201d is a great story directed by\u00a0Eliza Swenson\u00a0(is there anything this woman can’t do?!) set in the 60’s. I don’t want to give too much away though and ruin the surprise for you all. The last, and my personal favourite, is called “The Slaughter House”. This segment features none other than Jeffrey Combs and Sid Haig, also for you old school WWE fans out there there’s also Al Snow. This part has a very 70’s slasher vibe going on, again I won’t ruin the surprise but it’s a real treat.<\/h3>\n

My only complaint about “The Penny Dreadful Picture Show” is that I was left wanting more, even though it’s 100 minutes long it just seems to fly by. I seriously hope this becomes an annual thing, it definitely has the potential to carry on. If you’re a lover of Horror anthologies then I can’t recommend this film highly enough, it’s tailor made for you.<\/h3>\n
