Thirty years after her accidental death at the 1957 senior prom, the tortured spirit of prom queen, Mary Lou Maloney, returns and she is out for revenge.<\/h3>\n

Seven years after the first film somebody decided to make a sequel and thank goodness it happened.<\/h3>\n

This sequel takes a completely different direction to it’s predecessor, the only connection between the two is that they’re both centred on prom night at Hamilton High. Whether you think that’s good or bad thing is down to your personal taste.<\/h3>\n

Now if you’ve seen any 80’s high school Horror film then you’ll know exactly what you’re in for here, it’s the exact same setup we usually get which is admittedly cheesy yet fun and that’s a great little way of summing up this entry in the series.<\/h3>\n

The film does enough to keep you entertained, I mean sure it has big plot holes and some actions don’t make sense but this was an era when that didn’t matter much and when did that ever get in the way of having fun, as long as you enjoy what you’re watching.<\/h3>\n

Lisa Schrage seems to be having a whale of a time in the role of ‘Mary Lou Maloney’ and who can blame her as it’s a role fit for the era, plus we get Michael Ironside which is always fun. The film blends together other releases of the time, the biggest inspiration seeming to be “Carrie” but does so\u00a0without it feeling a\u00a0rip off.<\/h3>\n

“Hello Mary Lou – Prom Night II” is a film I recommend for fans of 80’s Horror, it’s my favourite entry in the series and think it’s too often overlooked.<\/h3>\n

Miscellaneous facts about the film:<\/h3>\n

Almost every character in the film shares a last name with a cult film director (especially horror directors) such as Wes Craven, Stephen King, George A. Romero, Tod Browning, Joe Dante, John Carpenter, John Waters and Frank Henenlotter.<\/h3>\n

Though the movie was filmed in 1987, relics of the movie could still be found at the junior high school where it was filmed. The black paint that covered the windows could still be seen until the windows in the school’s library were replaced in early 2001.<\/h3>\n
