A government tank containing genetically engineered piranha is unwittingly emptied into a river that flows past a resort area.<\/h3>\n

In the mid 90’s Roger Corman\u00a0made a deal with cable TV to remake several of his\u00a0films, “Piranha” would be one of them.<\/h3>\n

As with any remake it’s inevitable that it will be compared to the original, call it unfair or whatever else you want but in all honesty this film doesn’t hold a candle to it’s predecessor, not one little bit. It’s such a shame really.<\/h3>\n

In hindsight this remake was extremely pointless, sure Corman would have got a good deal out of it and the money would’ve funded other projects but was it worth it? From a business point of view I’m sure it was but as a fan I can wholeheartedly say that it truly wasn’t.<\/h3>\n

The film has some good casting with the likes of William Katt but it’s all just subpar, the writing is seriously sloppy and the film-making is just pure laziness.\u00a0Rather than shoot new special effects for the film, they\u00a0simply recycled the effects from the original.<\/h3>\n

Sets and props for this feature were also designed to look like the first film to help accommodate the recycling of the special effects for this feature, because o this you feel like you’re watching the original with all the good parts cut out.<\/h3>\n

“Piranha” is an awful film, just awful. Just watch the original instead.<\/h3>\n

Miscellaneous facts about the film:<\/h3>\n

Even though special effects had made considerable progress since 1978, stock-footage from Joe Dante’s version was used for close-ups of the killing fish of that film.<\/h3>\n

Some of the scenes were shot in the same locations as the original.<\/h3>\n
