Jessica-Cameron-On-Set-Of-Utero

It is not everyday that I get to interview a Scream Queen, but I did just that.  Not only did I interview a Scream Queen, but I managed to land an interview with one of the hottest starts in the Horror industry.  The actress/scream queen that I interviewed is none other than Jessica Cameron.  If you are a fan of anything Horror or read any of Raz’s posts, you have not only heard of her, but you have seen her in action as well.  Do yourself a favor and check out all of her links after reading this interview and she the multitude of goodies that she has been a part of.  So, without further ado, I present to you, my interview with a true Scream Queen, Jessica Cameron.

SWN –  For our fans that may not be in the know, who are you and where are you from?

JC – I am an actress/ scream queen/ film maker from Owen Sound, Ontario Canada. Never heard of it? That’s because its a very tiny town about 2.5 hours North of Toronto.

SWN – How does it feel to be a modern day B-movie Scream Queen?

JC – Its AWESOME. Seriously its a lot of fun. I mean how many people get to say that they pay their bills by running and screaming through the woods while trying not to fall?  I am honored by the label Scream Queen since I have such a high respect for the horror genre!

SWN – I absolutely love your role in The Black Dahlia Haunting, how did it feel to play a young Norma Jeane?

JC – THANK YOU so very much! I have always been a HUGE Marilyn Monroe fan (who isn’t). Ever since I was a child. Getting to play her was a dream come true. I really tried to focus on who she was at the time in reality rather then the image that the media would have you believe, she really crafted the Marilyn persona and The Black Dahlia Haunting takes place around the time when that persona was not completely formed.

SWN – Truth or Dare is another popular film among our fans, how did that film surface?

JC – I am so blessed that the horror fans love my little torture film as much as I do.  It’s been so much fun to travel with the film to various film festivals and what it with them. I worked with writer Jon Higgins to develop the story with the original intention to star and produce the film ONLY. I never had any initial plans to direct it. However all of the directors that we approached wanted to tone it down which broke my blood loving heart. So I decided to direct it to maintain the story as we had written it. As a horror fan I hate watching films that have been watered down or altered to make them more appealing to the main stream movie going audience – those are not the fans that I want to reach. For me the story should be told as it was meant to be, and if the main stream audiences don’t like it that’s fine.

SWN – Some of our followers may not know that you helped write the film. What’s harder, acting or writing?

JC – Technically I co-wrote the film but that credit is not in the sense that you and the audience probably assume. I never sat down to type anything I just helped with ideas and dialog. Jonathan Scott Higgins did all the hard work of actually writing and formatting.  So in that regard acting is much harder, but I also enjoy it much more. Its my first love, crafting characters for the audience and there is nothing quite like it!

SWN – Do you have a film that is close to your heart?

JC – Dead Hooker in a Trunk. Jen and Sylvia Soska made one hell of a film and quite possibly the best film ever made with no money. It made me want to get behind the camera, it was inspirational to see what they were able to accomplish. Their vision, attention to detail, and the passion really set it above many other indie films. If you have not seen it then I encourage you to check it out, it might not have a big budget behind it (or any budget) but its got more passion then most studio films can even imagine!

SWN – What projects can we expect from you in the future?

JC – We are busy working on pre-production for our next 3 films – Mania, Desolation and Kill the PA.
Mania is a fucked up lesbian love story starring Heather Dorff that I am going to direct.

Desolation is a story about a couple who picks up the wrong hitchhiker while they are on vacation. I will star in this film along side Heather Dorff.

And Kill the PA (aka Kill the Production Assistant) is going to be the feature length documentary following the making of the above 2 films as we film them while traveling cross country in an RV.

SWN – What advice do you have for aspiring actors/actresses?

JC – Give up anything and everything that you can to pursue your dream. Its something that should engulf at least 18 hours a day, 7 days a week if you really want to earn a living at it. If there is anything else you can see yourself doing that you would be happy with then do it because I can promise you that it will be easier and you will likely make more money doing whatever else that is. That said if I can do it the anyone can, but you are going to have to work your ass off!

SWN – Where can my readers see more of your wonderful work?

JC – I LOVE social media and you can find me at the following links : )

Truth or Dare is finishing up its festival run so please try and watch it in a theater if you can. www.Truthordarethemovie.com has all the details : )

SWN – If you could work with anyone in the industry, who would it be?

JC – The Soska Sisters. Seriously I have never met anyone as intelligent, passionate, driven, talented, etc as those two women. I would love to work with them, its my dream. If you have not seen American Mary then I encourage you to stop whatever you are doing RIGHT NOW and go get it to watch it, you can thank me later!

I want to thank Raz for helping me with the interview, but most importantly I want to thank Jessica for taking the time and making my day by allowing me to interview her.  I am truly honored that she was my first Scream Queen interview and I look forward the others to come. Until next time, get your SCREAM on!
