In early December of 2012, Titan Books released a treasure of a book. That book is Flash Gordon: the Tyrant of Mongo. This book is a must for any Sci-fi, comic, pulp, or classic literature fan. It is a must for everyone!
For those of you who don’t know, Flash Gordon made its debut in 1934 in the Sunday newspaper. With great writing as well as great art, the strip was the talk of the nation and it didn’t take too long to become a movie serial. Most of us at SomeWhatNerdy grew up with classics like Star Trek, Star Wars, and Doctor Who, but before Darth Vader there was Ming the Merciless, a universal tyrant who wanted nothing but to consume ultimate power.
This battle of good and evil between Flash Gordon and Ming the Merciless drew millions and millions of fans back in its day and still does so today. This book is truly a great start for any fan of any genre. Flash Gordon is a must in any Nerd’s collection of literature. If not for Flash Gordon, it is very possible we may have never had a Star Wars or Star Trek. Yikes! I just scared myself a little.
