Before the hit series “Arrow” or the hit video game “Arkham City”, there was simply Deadshot.  True comic followers would know that Deadshot made his debut back in issue #59 of the Batman franchise in 1950.  In fact he was created by Bob Kane, David Vern Reed, and Lew Schwartz.  Since the 50’s we have seen Deadshot change in appearance as well as his affiliations but one thing stayed the same, he is the best hit man you could hire because he doesn’t miss.  It was this talent that always drew me to him as the “cool” bad guy.

Well, this week I was going through some of my comics and I came across the 5 part Deadshot miniseries from 2005 and I knew this would be perfect for a Flashback Friday segment and here we are, LoL. This is a really good series and it even makes you pull for the bad guy known as Deadshot.

Our story begins with Deadshot on a mission with Killer Frost, Fire Bug, and the Closer.  Once there job is done Floyd Lawton aka Deadshot decides to take some time off.  During this time he finds out he has a daughter and wants to make sure she is doing well.  You see, he had a son who was murdered and he would give anything to have his child back so when he heard he had a daughter, his priorities change,

He tracks down his ex as well as daughter and leaves them with some money and the knowledge that he will keep an eye on them.  It turns out his daughter Zoe is being raised in a bad part of Star City known as the triangle.  Gangs fight daily over this area and Deadshot will not allow his daughter to be raised in such conditions, so he decides to take residence in the triangle and start war on crime.

During his crusade he makes a surprising ally in Green Arrow and he makes some new enemies, including his ex partners. Well, of course Deadshot knew this would not end well so he made necessary arrangements before confronting the mob of villains that was pursuing him.  In the end, it appears that Deadshot was dead, at least that is what he wants them to believe so they can live long and happy lives.  Of course he has the ability to check on them from time to time without them knowing and I am sure he will.

This series was written by Christos N. Gage and penciled by Steven Cummings with ink done by Jimmy Palmiotti.  It is one of my favorite reads from that time period in DC Comics.  That is one of the reasons why I have kept this series.  I am giving this series a strong rating of 8 out of 10.  It is definitely something you should check out if you can.
