My fellow nerds, I have a great interview for you today. I first discovered Axel Gimenez on deviantart when I was looking at He-man art for a tumblr post. Then, the name kept popping in my head and I knew I knew it from somewhere. It turns out I had just read one of the issues of Action Comics he drew. Well, I decided to ask him for an interview for the site and he was more than happy to answer some questions. So, Nerds and Nerdettes, I present to you my interview with DC Comics artist, Axel Gimenez.
1. Who are you and where are you from?
Hello, I’m, Axel Gimenez, and I live in Argentina.
2. I just love your style! When did you discover your art style?
I couldn’t say an exact moment of when my style emerged. I think that’s something that one develops and discovering over time, taking and leaving the influence of other artists.
3. By looking at your art, I would say you are a He-man/Thundercats fan, who is your favorite character to draw?
Yes, I’m a fan of both series. And I can say that I’m comic book artist, thanks to Masters of the Universe, because I started drawing the human figure, by copying the drawings of minicomics and cardback, from its vintage toyline. My favorite character from Masters of the Universe, is Hordak. And from ThunderCats, Mumm-Ra.
4. What inspired you to do a Mosquitor drawing?
I just drew Mosquitor, because it was the time of its appearance in Masters of the Universe Classics toyline. And maybe, because sometimes, I like to draw some of its characters, with reminiscences of the drawings of vintage cardbacks. There’s no other special reason.
5. Where can my readers see your art?
Most of my work can be seen in my facebook account: www.facebook.com/axel.gimenez.14
and my DeviantArt. axel-gimenez.deviantart.com/
6. Do you have anything you would like to promote right now?
I have nothing special to promote. Just tell you that I’m currently working for DC on its Smallville series, and I’m also working on characters for a new world called Savage Conquest, created by my friend, Chris Faccone.
7. What is your favorite project that you have done?
While I enjoyed working on each of the projects I’ve done, I could say that Action Comics is my favorite, for all that it meant in my career.
8. What are your plans for the future?
My plan for the future is to continue enjoying each of the projects assigned to me, and especially to have the chance to work on a “official” project of Masters of the Universe.
