Hello boys and girls.  I have a treat for you today.  My interview today stars not only a talented cosplayer but one the admins for the wonderful cosplay site www.GeekxGirls.com.   I am sure you have seen some of the posts as well as the models from this site since I share their images on FB all the time.  I was very pleased that Roxy said yes to an interview, for she is a lady of many talents.  So let’s cut to the chase, here is my interview with Roxy Lee.

1.Who are you and where are you from?

Who is your daddy and what does he do…LOL My name is Roxy Lee I am a cosplayer/ Special fx Makeup artist and I am from the amazing and incredible site and FB page www.GeekxGirls.com where I am an official Geek Girl and admin. I also help run the youtube channel and have a couple of my own where I make video content whether it be makeup or cosplay or interviews etc. I guess I am just me! Haha

 2. How did you discover cosplay?

Whoa um, I think cosplay discovered me more like it lol.I had always been HUGE on Halloween and makeup[ and performing arts so I was in costume a lot, but for actual conventions it started when I was a model for the graphic novel turned feature film “Bad kids go to hell” which is now in theatres CONGRATS GUYS check out the site here www.badkidsgotohell.com/  ! I was cosplaying as their character Veronica at both ComicCon and FanExpo 2010 and had the time of my life. I met so many cool people and loved seeing all the costumes! I fell in love then and knew it was something I had to be a part of, it was special. So I came across Geek Girls and said this is it, this is what I want to be a part of and the rest is history! I am sort of a cosplay newb as I like the makeup aspect of it more, but I am beginning to love creating a costume and stepping back and going damn, I made that! Haha

3. I really love your Riddler cosplay.  How did you come up with that idea?

Oddly enough I had a COMPLETELY different idea for that costume haha, it was going to be a lot more exposed with a red short wig, but as I started collecting and finding pieces I discovered that isn’t me and I wanted to stick to the animated series Riddler with the green jacket suit, hat and cane, he was just such a gentleman, it just appealed more to me.. So I had the purple tights (Thanks mom circa 1975) haha, and I dyed my red leather thigh boots black. I then found the green jacket at a thrift store, tore out the shoulder pads and tailored it to bring it in at the waist, ironed on the question marks, found a green bowler hat and glued on the black strap and drew on the question mark with a felt pen. Made the belt at the waist and had the gloves from a previous costume. And the cane was made for me by a friend from scratch and it was incredible! He has a props company named Sky’s the limit check them out here:  www.facebook.com/pages/Skys-the-Limit-Costumes-Design/190131704419165  And voila Lady Riddler was born. It was sort of a take on the 80’s, haha.

4. Who is your favorite comic character to cosplay?

It is getting so hard to choose, but since you said comic character I will go with Poison Ivy, I did however do the Arkham Asylum video game version but she in general is one of my favorites portray because I get to feel sexy and powerful and intimidating and its nice to be able to feel that as a woman every now and then. I am a modest person in how I dress so for a day I get to push myself out of the comfort zone I am in and wear no pants! Haha. I loved the makeup al though it took about 2 hours to complete by myself but so worth it, and the hair spray took about a day to wash out but I felt like a superstar and had a lot of fun and the photos came out great. But My favorite cosplay to wear is my Zoey from Left For Dead for sure, she is my favorite videogame female bad ass and I hear I look a lot like her and made the costume from scratch so it just means so much to me to be able to be her for a weekend.

5. What other genres do you cosplay?

I love videogames so I do have a lot of videogame characters lined up for the most part, but I am also a HUGE movie buff so I have some well known costumes coming up from some popular movies.  But I also have an anime costume coming out from Naruto, some more comic book ones, TV shows and that’s about it, I tend to stick to what I know and love and do not like to cosplay as a character I cannot fully become or transform into from tip to toe, personality and all.  I am a performer through and through and like to give the fans a show.

 6. By looking at your cosplay resume, I would say you are a DC fan.  Have you ever cosplayed a Marvel character??

Ahhh me and DC have a mass love affair going on haha I am a Villain fan, I do not like Superheros for the most part as you can tell not one of my cosplays has been a “Superhero” I just tend to not relate to them or attach to them personally. Everyone else can cosplay the heros I will stick to the misunderstood and the Anti heroes. I do in fact have a Lady Deadpool coming out, no idea when but it is coming and it will be glorious! I have an insane crush on Deadpool it is not even funny. I have cosplay’d as a marvel though not too long ago, I did Zatanna in October for both Halloween and the Burlington ToyCon and it was a lot of fun, I have yet to shoot her but I will be soon. I did a more modern take on her.  And that’s about it for marvel unless you consider my mystique makeup as a cosplay which I sort of do.

7. Do you do other modeling besides cosplay?

I used to! I used to model and act when I was younger, but decided it wasn’t for me. I have a huge personality and am sort of…eccentric? That I felt trapped infront of the camera. A lot of our girls are such amazing models and have such a magnitude infront of the camera that you can feel what they are thinking and saying, but I just never felt connected with it for some reason. I just kept going back to video and live events. I have to talk and perform haha or I feel caged? I love modeling for Geek Girls though with Dana, she is such an amazing photographer and we always have so much fun that I feel I can express myself and be myself and it will translate. I LOVE cosplay modeling but don’t think I would volunteer to do anything else modeling wise in the future haha. I modeled hats once and it was a hilarious experience for me. Traumatized me a bit. I think I’ll stick to video.

 8. What are your plans for the future?

Well I am hoping to be a Geek Girl for as long as we can! I love what we do and knowing I am a part of something so special. I think we have what it takes to take over the world one geek at a time haha. So more events for sure, all over the world promoting for the GG crew and meeting all the fans and doing photoshoots for the site is definitely a must. I want to start my own TV show for and with the Geek Girls doing interviews and different segments. I would love to be on a show like G4, Ep and Reviews on the run etc as a host and game reviewer that is a dream. And I would love love love to be a special FX makeup artist working on film and TV as a creature designer, creating my own monsters and aliens and demons. I wanna be the girl that people watch a movie and go OMG REMMEBER THAT ONE MONSTER IT SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME! I wanna be the one that created it ;) And hopefully be able to open my own studio making prosthetics and sculpts.

9. Where can my readers see more examples of your work?

Well my Facebook page has the most of my work on it makeup and cosplays and my youtube channel has a ton of videos of me in makeup or costume. Also Check out the Geek Girls site, youtube and FB page as we have a ton of content on there. I will put up all the links here AND CHECK US OUT!:

 10. If you had to pick one dream cosplay what would it be? (Changed this one as I already answered what my favorite was)

I would have to go with the one I always tell people, Harley Quinn. I know it is so simple and done a lot, but in my eyes she is one if not my favorite character ever ( I have her name tattoo’d on my ribcage).  I feel personally that I could never do her to the justice that she should be done to. To me I just love her so much that if I were to be in her costume I would both fan girl too much and also not be able to transform into her completely, voice, look, personality and all and that would just not work for me. I want to become the characters I portray. I am not a bubbly, ditzy girl and I cannot do her voice so I just wouldn’t do it, Although it would be a dream haha. Maybe I’ll work on it and perfect it! A dream that is coming to life though soon is my COMMANDER FREAKING SHEPARD! From tip to toe I will be decked out in the N7 armor equipped with a biotic arm, sniper gun (Hoping the mantis) LED Sniper viser and the suit will be a purple and blue combo just as it is in Multi for me ;) SO EXCITED! I will be shooting that for an upcoming photoshoot the Geek Girls have with Adam Jay from Superhero Photography in February so look out for it!
