Superman: Man Of Steel Kryptonian Invasion Figure 5-Pack: Two Superman figures wear different suits and armor; the other three figures represent additional characters from the film, including Superman’s Kryptonian father Jor-El and enemy General Zod. The Box Art

The art of the box is very cool, presented in the traditional Red, blue and hints of yellow color scheme of superman, it catches your eye, or does it.. I spent probably 20 mins looking all over toys r us for the single packed figures and kept thinking that the Spiderman figures were them.  The back of the box shows the figures in a fantasy setting with Jor El and Strike Shield Superman (will get to this one later) battling General Zod and on the right side Superman battling Namek.  Now even though it looks good what really bugs me is that the designers of the art used words like BLAM! And KRUNCH. Now even though these were used to depict the scene, for me it reminded of 60s batman and words like BLAM and KRUNCH have no room in the world of superman.

Also shown are other 3 .75 inch figures.  So lets go through these

Strike Shield Superman. Why does he need a shield He is Superman???
Tread Attack Superman. Comes with a wheel axel and a tire.
Shadow Assualt General Zod.
Auto Assault Superman : With a car door   (this figure actually comes in this 5 piece set so why advertise the same figure, when there are others. No clue)
Split Cycle Superman:  Where you get to break a motorcycle in half
Kyrpton Combat Superman
Wrecking Ball Superman

Now just by looking at these it seems that there will be one interesting thing to look out for in the movies that may or may not upset a lot of superman fans.  Does krypton still exist??  If not why do we need the Krypton Combat Superman.  I guess we will all find out June 14.

The Figures:

General Zod:  standing at 3.75 inches tall, out of the lot of 5 it’s the most simple figure. I think they make up for that by giving him a gun.

Auto Assault Superman: Looks like they used the exact same sculpt that they use for General Zod, and just changed up the colors.  The emblem on his chest and general zods have been painted on and not part of the sculpt. At least they gave him a fabric cape unlike his 8 inch counter part (which we will review at a later date).

Namek: He stands at 6 inches tall and I can only assume he’s a version of Non from the original movie.  But lets wait an see.  The sculpt has this transformers cybertronian look.

Strike Shield Superman. Again, Why does he need a shield He is Superman??? I guess this must be for when he’s on krypton and there he isn’t a super man? The sculpt is detailed and has sharp clean edges.

Jor El.  Same sculpt used as Shield Superman, which leads me to believe that this was used in Krypton. This figure actually looks the cheapest of them all. The paint job is not good, the plastic looks just that..plastic, maybe its due to the color but it looks cheap. The symbol on his chest you can hardly see as they used this grey color,  why didn’t they just sculpt it in the mold.  Both superman and Jor El have the ‘s’ symbol on their chests. It would’ve made sense and added depth to this figure.

We can’t bend our knees.

Now the part I hate to inform you about. Articulation.  The legs cannot be bent at the knees. But the elbows can. Why in this day and age we cannot get bending knees. They had them when the A-team figures came out in the 80s.  This for me is a huge let down. Mattel really needs to step up their game on the 3.75 inch lines as they do on the other figures they produce in the 6 inch lines.  Maybe their reasoning is that these ones are meant for kids but kids nowadays want detail.

Conclusion

What do I think of the pack. Well I can tell you one thing, these figures are cheap. Single packed figures are available online from Mattel at $6.99 and from target from $7.99 so getting a multipack of 5 figure for $22.99, its definitely a good buy.

Over all the figures are cool because they are superman. And no doubt the 5 packs will fly off the shelves due to price. But if you’re looking to buy these, word of advice, hold off for the single packed figures and look for a FIVE BELOW near you. They’ll probably end up there.
