There are some absolutely amazing products coming out in 2018, collectibles have become so huge now that they’re popping up all over the place and companies are releasing products that we’ve only dreamed of and ranging in a variety of prices that range from affordable to astronomical.
There’s only one (affordable) product I’m looking out for this year and that’s NECA’s ‘Ashy Slashy’ Puppet from the show “Ash VS Evil Dead”, as soon as that thing popped up on my screen I instantly screamed “I WANT ONE” (No, I am not joking). I ave been saving my pennies for this release and I can’t wait to have him in my house, I just wish that it came in a display box, yes, I am one of those collectors who doesn’t like taking things out of boxes.

I have always been into movies, but that’s been a constant throughout my life. But like many of you I’ve also gone through phases. Times in my life when I’ve been really really into something. Sunk my money into it, spent all my time involved in it. Movies, Books, Toys. Stuff like that wasn’t really something I loved that set me apart from others. Something that made me part of a group. But sophomore year of high school I fell in love with anime after watching two movies. Princess Mononoke and Perfect Blue got me into anime.

I still watch anime. But not as much as I once did. I’m not a weeb anymore. I don’t try to throw Japanese terms into my every day vocabulary like I did when I was an embarrassing teenager.  But I would still very much like to own some of the series I grew up on and even a newer version of an old classic.

The first is the Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Blu-ray box set.

Look at it. Isn’t it beautiful? 49 episodes and one amazing movie all for the low low price of 270 bucks. That’s it. Lucky for me the thing I will probably buy next is a more reasonable price.

If you’re a fan of Rurouni Kenshin and you haven’t seen the 3 live action movies that were made, then stop right now, find them, and watch them. They are probably the greatest live action movie adaptations of an anime ever. I saw this for the first time in a huge theater full of cosplaying anime nerds and there wasn’t a single boo in the audience. A theaters worth of fanboys (and girls) loved it and we all know the fan base of any show or movie is the hardest to please. Not only were they great adaptations of the manga and anime, but they were just good movies. Even if you’re not a fan of anime or manga, these are worth checking out.

And that, my nerdy friends, is what I plan on buying this year. These are going to be my nerdiest purchases.

Hmmm, what Nerdy Thing am I going to buy in 2018?  SO many choices, but I think 2018 is going to be the year of FUNKO for me.  Hell, as we speak I just ordered the Star Wars Endor box as well as the DC Collector’s Green Lantern box from their subscription services.  As I was looking at releases from the NY Toy Fair, I noticed how much cool stuff FUNKO is coming out with.  Not only do they have kick ass pop vinyls coming out, but the now have action figures in the style of He-Man.  The Mortal Kombat line was just released in February with only more exciting lines to come which will include Conan, Horror, and Thundercats.  So yeah, 2018 will be the year of FUNKO when it comes to me.

Well I always have been a giant fan of pinball. A few years ago a family member of mine was driving around and saw somebody throwing out a 1980 Spiderman pinball machine …

He then brought it over to my house and I have worked on it off and on for the past few years to get it up and running. Cleaning, replacing parts on the play flied, replacing the rubbers, redoing the back glass, taking the boards out and  …. I got in way over my head and could never get it to work. Not even a little. As you can see in the photo above, maybe 15 lights worked on it at one time. I’m not even sure it does that anymore.

Jump to today, I’m selling the Spiderman pinball and remodeling my house. What does that got to do with what Nerdy thing I’m buy this year? Well in said budget for remodeling my house (if everything works out right) I have enough left over to buy me two pinball machines! So this year I plan on getting two pinball machines, cheap ones, that scream Snarfkris (That’s me) with two of my favorite things … action movies and horror movies. There are a lot of choices out there for pinball machines but with me staying in budget and theme I picked out the two I’m going with …

Last Action Hero and Tales from the Crypt both from 1993 and by Data East. Both games just fit everything I need in pinball. So if we got any pinball fans out there feel free to drop me a line if you got a in with these machines. Also don’t tell my wife I plan on buying two pinball machines … thanks!
