So a few days ago George Lucas sold Lucasfilms to Disney for $4.05 billion. While Lucas will serve the company as a creative consultant. Also announced that Disney will making Episodes 7, 8, and 9. I got tons of emails asking what I thought of it … well here is my two cents.
First off let me start this right, I’m a huge Star Wars fan … I’m covered in Star Wars tattoos, my daughter is named after a Star Wars character, I have a whole room in my house full of Star Wars stuff, and I even molded the SomwhatNerdy logo after the Star Wars logo … I’m a fan. I’m more than a fan, I’m a fanatic. In the words of my good friend over at Star Wars Fanboys & Girls (HERE) “I’ll keep it simple.. Evolution… survival for those who adapt and change. people who stick to the old ways will die out. Star wars is evolving. NOW ENJOY IT!” We need to evolve.
This maybe the greatest thing to ever happen to SW since episode VI. With all the normal talk … “Disney will mess it up,” “they will Disney it up,” “They only want money,” “End of the World!” I just don’t see it that way. The biggest thing we have going for us is Disney Money! We would have never gotten a new movie under Lucas, he has said it over and over. Who better to make episodes 7, 8, and 9? Who as the money to do it right? Oh to all saying “its only a money thing for them!” Duh! They are a business. Their main goal is to make money … the main point to any business is to make money. Which makes me believe they will do everything in their power to do the movies right … stay right with the fans, while making new ones.
When Disney brought Marvel I remember the same thing happening .. “OMG Disney will run our comics into the ground.” Disney as done great with Marvel (movies, since I’m not sure about the comics since I’m way behind on them.) Thor, The Cap, Iron Man, and of course Avengers have been great. A Nerds dream come true. Whats to make anybody think any different with SW? It will be new SW. New movies, new things to love … new things to hate … news things to talk, agree, and argue about.
And since nobody can tell the future, lets see how things turn out. I’m not saying the movies will be great, I’m not saying we will have the same magic that we had from episodes 4-6, I’m not even saying the movies will be watchable (but we all know we will watch them anyway.) I’m just saying give it time. From this fan to you all … remember hate leads to the dark side.

I totally agree! I just wonder what stories will they choose from to make the film. There are so many great novels out there. I would love to see a Deathtroopers film!
(empire ) was NOT directed by lucas and things shouldve stayed that way perhaps the fans will be taken into account now, I'm actually jazzed about it! I have hope again…
I think that Disney will do well with it. If they choose to go with the next generation type deal, I wonder if?

they will make one of the movies deal with and explain chewie's death, the Yuuzhan Vong war and the inevitable fall of Leia's kid – can't remember his name now ~~jacen?~~- who get's killed by his sister Jaina.
Oh, Oh, and Thrawn is also a major plot point they could also deal with, since he does try/succeeds to reunite the remaining imperial fleets under one banner.

It also got me thinking about who would be cast to play Mara Jade and a few other major characters.
the long and short of it, from my perspective is: What can these new movies do to 4-6? Nothing. Even if they are terrible the movies that I loved watching when I grow up will be unaffected by them. if you dont like them, don't watch them again.
