Boy Marvel has been kicking out some great stories starring some of Marvel’s greatest villains. I mean you have the Age of Ultron story that is causing chaos and now we have Thanos Rising. What I love about the Thanos Rising story is that it is an origin story like none other before. We actually get to see what makes Thanos become the killing machine that we all love to hate.
Thanos Rising #1 told a story of how a boy was born on Titan. But this boy was considered special by all, well except his mother. His mother tried to kill him because she felt he was a monster. This landed her in an asylum and made this boy grow up without the compassion of his mother. This boy is named Thanos. Thanos is a mystery to all but more importantly, he is a mystery to himself. It is his curiosity that lands him in a cave full of carnivorous reptiles. These reptile attacked his friends, well all of them but one. A strange girl who Thanos considers a friend, but she is more like an evil temptress pushing him to his dark side. It is this push that makes him kill an entire species of cave lizards in issue #1.
In issue #2, we find an older and wiser Thanos bored with his studies and what his world calls as science. He is still looking to find his inner self. Until he gets that satisfaction, he will always hunger for that knowledge. This friend I mentioned earlier keeps pushing him in directions that no man should tread, but of course Thanos is no man who Titan has ever seen. What makes Thanos tick? What creates this blood thirst he has? Who is his next victim? I could answer these questions and so much more but I do not want to ruin the story.
The writing of Jason Aaron is just brilliant! The artwork of Simone Bianchi is dark enough to get the point across and follows along with the mood of the story. I give this series a strong 8 out of 10 rating, I personally cannot wait to see what Thanos discovers about himself next.
