While I’d like to be original and off-beat with my answer to this question I cannot tell a lie, especially one that involves something that means as much to me as STAR WARS. So there it is just like probably 80% of all Nerds on this earth my favorite film series is hands down George Lucas’, sci-fi-fantasy epic, the original STAR WARS trilogy. These 3 films are more than just entertainment to me, they are a guiding light in my life. As Lucas himself said “it’s a metaphor” and yes it is.
Luke begins as a teenager on a farm who’s only dream is to get off of the planet of Tattoine. He progresses through the movies to realize his true potential as one of the wisest and most powerful beings in the galaxy. He does this by walking in the light and believing in himself. The message in this is better than most organized religions. In fact it almost is a religion to me. We are nothing more than atoms held together by the energy field that surrounds us and of course science supports this. So I try my best to use the metaphorical force in my daily life and I hope you do too. Stay Jedi, Nerds, remember the Force will always be with you.

Topic for this week’s Nerd Talk is favorite movie franchise. Okay, well I think it is safe to say all of us at Somewhatnerdy will say Star Wars. I mean I was 3 when A New Hope came out and I remember seeing it in the theatres, Of course, I remember Empire a little more clearly since I was older and it was my first “date” with my 4th grade crush, but that is not what this is about. Anyone who knows me would say Star Wars is a big part of my life and they would be correct. I live, eat, and breathe Star Wars, but I am not the only one at Somewhatnerdy that feels this way so I am going to turn the dial a little.

My favorite movie franchise is the Harrison Ford, Lucas, and Spielberg era. That not only includes the original Star Wars trilogy but it adds the Indiana Jones trilogy as well. Some of my best childhood memories are during Indiana Jones and his adventures for ancient relics. I remember when I was a child I had the original Indiana Jones figures and I would play with them at my grandmother’s house in Pittsburgh while she was watching baseball, more specifically her Pittsburgh Pirates play ball. Indiana is also one of the few films I saw with my dad. This is important because my dad was always at work when I was a child.

No matter what form whether it be VHS or DVD, the original Star Wars trilogy as well as the Indiana Jones trilogy was always the first sets I would buy. I know some of may be shocked that I took the time to talk about other movies other than Star Wars, but let’s face it, Harrison Ford kicks ass no matter what! If he is in the film, I can guarantee you I will watch it. Star Wars will definitely be the most influential movie of my life and always will, but the Indiana Jones trilogy means a lot to me as well. I hope you enjoyed my rant on this week’s version of Nerd Talk.

I’m sure my answer is an obvious one but it’s the right one, yes it’s the “Evil Dead” series (not including the newest addition). The series is jam packed full of great special effects, gore, humour and legendary one-liners, plus we have the infamous Bruce Campbell, what’s not to love?! If I’m honest this was a hard question as the Horror genre is filled with great franchises but when it comes down to it there’s no beating the “Evil Dead” series.

Bruce Campbell is amazing in anything he does (Yes I know it’s a biased thing to say but damn it I’m right!) but he’s especially fantastic in this series, the ‘Ash’ character is one of the greatest that’s been brought to screen, so you better “HAIL TO THE KING, BABY!”

Big surprise my favorite movie series is STAR WARS … all of them 1-6. No I don’t like the prequels as much as the originals but I don’t have the hate for them like most Nerds do. Really don’t have much to say here other than if you have read this site for any amount of time you know we post a ton of Star Wars stuff (HERE for 11 pages of old post) and just check out the logo … I’m a Star Wars fan for life.
