As some of you already know, I have been doing cosplay interviews for a very long time.  I stay in touch as much as I can with past interviewees to see what they are up to.  A few months ago, I started a post to let you catch up with past cosplayers as well.  The lady I have for you today is known worldwide for her cosplays and her skills as a DJ.  NERDs and NERDettes. I present to you, my interview with DJ Spider.

1. For those who may not know, who are you and where are you from?

*waves* I’m DJ Spider. Originally, I’m from the Caribbean, but I’m currently living in Charlotte, NC, by way of Atlanta, GA. I split my geekeries between DJing and costuming.

2. What new cosplays have you done since the last time we spoke?

Wow, let’s see…it looks like I’ve been busy!

For myself: Artemis (both a casual version and when she was Wonder Woman) BatWoman (Golden Age Kathy Kane) Black Orchid Captain Britain (Betsy Braddock version) Dazzler (Xtreme Xmen version) Endora (from “Bewitched”) Giganta Jocasta Mailice, Mistress of Hate Mera (A “hipster” version) Rogue (Art Adams/Marc Silvestri era) SpiderWoman (a Medieval gown version) Troia Wonder Woman (the 1974 Cathy lee Crosby version) Wonder Woman (Classic) Wonder Woman (1995 bike-shorts version)

For Others: Battlestar Galactica Admiral’s Uniform Black Mage from Final Fantasy Catwoman (Classic green & purple) Cheetah (Debbie Domaine) DarkStar Matter Eater Lad Shahna (from Star Trek: The Original Series) SpiderWoman Supergirl

3. Out of all your past cosplays, do you have a favorite?

Ugh, I hate that question! Can’t they all be a favorite? But anytime I wear one of my Dazzler costumes, I’m pretty happy. And any costume that makes people groan because it’s truly awful also get’s a big thumbs up LOL

4. My favorite was always your Dazzler cosplay. Have you retired her or do you still dress as Dazzler from time to time?

The silver suit is currently retired, as metallic spandex breaks down over time, so I need to redo her. But her blue suit and the new Xtreme Xmen suit are still in my closet.

5. What can we expect next from you in the near future?

I have a ridiculously long bucket list! So many costumes catch my eye for one reason or another. For 2104, I challenged myself to do costumes that would help me use up some of the excess fabric I have piled up in bins. It’s a budget-y/Project Runway type of year! The only money I want to spend this year is on a prop or a wig – everything else is coming out of my stashes!

6. I also know that you are a successful DJ. Any events you would like to promote?

I do about 2-3 gigs a month, most of them in the Charlotte area – you can always check out my DJ page to see what I’m up to or where I’ll be next! www.facebook.com/DJSpiderEBM

7. What comic titles are you currently reading? Some of the series I was really enjoying have come to the end of their runs, so my list is a bit shorter right now. But currently on my pull lsit are: Aquaman Batgirl Brother Nash Catwoman Chew Earth 2 Fables (in the trades) Fairest Guardians of the Galaxy Justice Leage Justice league dark Katana Krampus Mercy Sparx Nova Superior Spiderman Teen Titans Uncanny Avengers Uncanny X-Force Uncanny X-Men Vibe Wolverine & the Xmen World’s Finest

8. What comic related movie are you waiting to see in the near future? I’m curious about the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and hoping they don’t screw it up. captain America: The Winter Soldier should be great – I loved the first one much more than I expected to. And while not a comic book movie, How to Train Your Dragon 2 can’t get here fast enough.

9. Do you have a favorite video game that you are playing at the moment?

I’m a terrible gamer! I think the last game I was any good at was Asteroids *hangs head*

10. If you could work with any cosplayer or photographer, who would it be?

Oh wow, that’s a great and tough question! Honestly, I would be flattered if anyone wanted to work on a project with me! I’ve been poking at Riddle on a silly idea for a while. The costumers over on the SCF are amazing, and I would be honored to work with any of them. On a photography level, I love the work that Dru Phillips and Adam Jay have been doing with different cosplayers. But anyone I’ve worked with in the past are high on my list to do stuff with again – Patrick Sun, Paul Cory, Grace at Bodhi Tree Photography, Jayce at CGS, Bryan Humphrey, the team at Distractotron and the gang at Contagious Media…they’re all just great people and wonderful to work with.
